Default Two Seperate Issues.

So a friend of mine has a BIS blackberry.

I run my blackberry from my own BPS. Which i am the administrator.

I have set no policies up on the BPS.

Two things work differently for us.

He is able to select the " Remember me" Function at several forums we visit from the blackberry. That then seems to keep him logged in. So when he goes back to the page he no longer has to input his user name and password

This same function doesnt work for me. When i ask it to remember me it instantly forgets me and as soon as i click a post i have to re enter my password again.

my second problem is opening WMV files. my friend also tells me he is able to do this from his BB no problem. When i try and open a WMV file on my BB i get the following error: "The attachment type cannot be viewed on your device"

We both have the same firmware on our BB devices so it must be BPS related?

Any help appreciated.

hi Ben_weinburg...did you check the BlackBerry application and platform version software and compare them between the two handsets....streaming of any kind requires Blackberry Device Software 4.3 or later.

check out this KB for more details:

Thanks for the reply. We are both using blackberry bolds, I don't know what version he has on the working bb, but my bb that doesn't work is 4.6 so its not that!

Any other ideas? Also its not streaming as the video is attached to an email. My it policy is set to download attachments automatically

Open Blackberry Server Configuration and check the Attachments tab. Is .wmv listed in the "Format Extensions" list? If not, this is why you cannot open the attachment. You need to add it to that exceptions list.

Where exactly is this "Attachment Tab"?

I can not find anything to do with "format extensions"

The BlackBerry Attachment Service uses distillers to process attachments for viewing on the device. Unfortunately, WMV files have not yet made it into BES (or BPS) yet. I doubt you'll see the support for it in BPS until the product is replaced (assuming that happens). This is one area that they have improved in BIS over BES/BPS.

Is there no way to download the file to the device? As the device its self can play a wmv file.

But eaither way, thank you very much for your answer! Very informative!

With BES 4.1 SP6 and OS 4.5+, you can download the attachment to the device. However, this feature was never implemented into BPS.
