Default Blackberry Router + Exchange Edge Server??

I am working on a large deployment in which I have limited boxes for Blackberry and can do no virtualzation. I get five boxes per-site to work with. For security reasons I have to place the router in the DMZ. To maximize server utilization I was think of installing the Router along with the Exchange Edge server.

Has anyone tried this. I have read thru everything BES 5.0 document out there and have not found anything that say it would be an issue.

I certainly haven't done it and I'm sure both Microsoft and RIM would say don't do this ... however, the router service only has to talk SRP and pass traffic ... and won't conflict with any port usage that Edge uses.

While I wouldn't recommend it, if required I'd feel comfortable with implementing it.

Good question!

Thanks hdawg,

My biggest concern is the number of Exchange Servers in this deployment far out ways the number of Blackberry Servers and I want to make sure I am keep the number of Exchange server per Messaging agent to no more then two. By moving the router to the Edge server that frees some hardware to install another dispatcher which will give me another set of standard messaging agents. As much as I know Static Messaging Agnets are available, they tend to require addition management that rarely gets done.

you want to keep the number of Exchange servers per messaging to 1. 1:1 ratio ... you never want to share agents if you can avoid it ... and you certainly can.

Give these a read and let me know if you have any questions.
