Oh yeah, just a word of advice. Go ahead and set a signature now. Anytime you join a new forum or remove your signature, any posts you make without one are not flagged with a 'signature: yes' indication. So when you do eventually set a signature, it's not retroactive to your first post.

What do you guys think of the forum?

Also, I'm upgrading the forum software tonight to the latest version that was just released. Either tomorrow or Sunday, we're migrating the site to new hardware (just completed mock migration and stress test of the site on there). I will have notices up on the forum during either time. The upgrade should take no more than 20 minutes tops. The migration would be about the same time, but you have that whole DNS propagation variable that I won't be in control of (though, most carriers are fairly good about updating regularly).

I already blocked the signatures (always do on any forum I join ). The one thing I am not used to is the person's name with their post below it instead of the usual name on the left with the post on the right of it. Other than that, seems pretty nice and I'll be checking out the other parts of the forum for sure as well.

Okay, I'm not sure if I'm the only one who found this funny, but here's just how bad the ACC has become since VT and UM joined. This is from ESPN's 2009 Predictions for the conference (...wow):

3. Duke will come up short of a bowl game. Durham wasn't built in a day and either was Duke football. Let's give David Cutcliffe some time. Besides, his schedule isn't exactly favorable. Army, Kansas and red-hot Richmond are all on the nonconference schedule.

OK, I made it over here as well. Minnesota has hired Cos for the D, so our fears have been realized. The rumor is that he spent his off-year learning how to stop the spread.

I honestly hope he works out better for you than he did for us. Maybe the year off did him good, and maybe he'll have more assistance and support from a good HC than he ever had at Nebraska.

The forum looks great, and I like the lack of restrictions here - not only on the content, but on images, etc. Good job and good luck with it!

Regarding the upgrade and DNS propagation, I think if you have the old hardware available, you can keep it there for a day or two with an auto-redirect to the new site, can't you?

I end up blocking the signatures on forums where they allow images of unlimited size in them, because it gets so ridiculous. I actually like the signatures on BBF, as well as here so far.

Otto, a suggestion based on the above - I don't know if images are allowed here as part of signatures (I see you have them in yours as the owner), I haven't tried, but my recommendation/request would be to allow them, but with a relatively small maximum size allowed. The ones in your sig look just fine to me.

DF, without jumping through hoops, keeping the same domain name would make this a tough task (unless you're thinking of something I'm not). We've already set up a CNAME record in our DNS servers to point an alternate URL to the new site, so once I close things on this host, I'll either set up a temporary redirection to that URL or I'll just put the URL in the 'forum closed' notification on here. Either way, it should be painless.

Here are the settings for signatures:

Maximum characters (including BBCode): 1000
Maximum characters (excluding BBCode): 500
Maximum character size: 7
Maximum number of images: 4
Maximum image height: 100px
Maximum image width: 500px
Maximum size of signature image: 100KB

Trust me, the last thing I want is a board full of signature images, so if it becomes an issue, I'll adjust the settings accordingly.

OK - not a big deal, but I thought you could set up the redirect directly from the machine at the old IP address to the new IP address for a couple days, vs the URL, to take care of the DNS propagation delays. As you say, pretty painless anyway, so no big deal.

This is from Stewart Mandel's Mail Bag. I think it sums it up quite nicely. Of course, I'm just a little biased. This was published a couple days before the Championship game.

Without even knowing the outcome of Florida vs. Oklahoma, what is your rationale for having anyone but Utah No. 1 on your final ballot? By virtually any metric, the Utes should be national champions. They beat four ranked teams (two in the top 10), finished unbeaten and played in a very tough conference. How, in good conscience, can you rank anyone else ahead of them?
-- Neil, New York

The simple answer: Because I don't believe they're the best team in the country. How in good conscience can I rank them ahead of another team who I truly believe is better? I don't mean to discount the Utes' Sugar Bowl win. They flat-out dominated Alabama, with or without Andre Smith. But folks -- it was just one game, and not a championship game at that. I watched Utah play four times during the season (which, I'm guessing, is three times more than many voters did), and that was by far the Utes' best performance.

Prior to the bowls, I had the Utes ranked ninth. In the illustrious words of Social Distortion, I was wrooooooooong. (Yes: I just bought Rock Band 2.) I will be moving them up considerably in the final poll -- but not to No. 1. Why? Because both Florida and Oklahoma played at a higher level against tougher competition over the course of the entire season, and now one of the two is going to beat the other. While the Mountain West deserves credit for a fantastic season, anyone who thinks it was on the same level as the SEC or Big 12 is kidding himself. The fourth- and fifth-best teams in the Big 12 this year were Oklahoma State and Missouri. The fourth- and fifth-best teams in the MWC were Air Force and Colorado State.

Want a more quantitative analysis? In Jeff Sagarin's conference power ratings, the Mountain West finished the regular season No. 7. (Personally, I'd put it ahead of the Pac-10 and Big East.) As for schedule strength, according to CollegeBCS.com, Oklahoma's schedule was No. 2, Florida's No. 5, Utah's No. 61. According to Sagarin (which includes I-AA teams): Oklahoma No. 8, Florida No. 19, Utah No. 70.

I haven't made a final decision where to rank Utah (Thursday night's result will obviously play a factor), but it will probably be somewhere between Nos. 2-4.

Okay guys. We're going to be migrating in the next 15 minutes. Stay tuned to the notice that's posted for the URL (forums will be closed with a link once everything has been migrated and enabled).

We've migrated. Had a few issues with the other alternate domain name and vBulletin operating correctly. C'est la vie. We lowered the TTL for all of the DNS hosts, so it should updated really quickly for most people.

fell a sleep with 10 minutes left in the game. The OU guy should have slapped the taste out of his mouth. Did I mention I despise the gator chomp. I can recall all the Gator fans on the previous thread saying the Gators never taunt anyone. And yet here is the illustrious leader the saint himself.

You are kidding right???

When we do it, we do it as a REACTION to people that talk their shit...

Fourth best QB in the Big 12???? Fine. When we prove you wrong, we will let you know that you are WRONG....

Wanna EXCESSIVELY celebrate in our end zone by clearing your bench and take a personal foul on an extra point??? Fine. We will beat your ass, then we will take our time outs at the end of the game just to rub it in...

Notice, it is REACTIVE...

No, I am not kidding. I see your players doing it every game time and time again. You reacted by taking time outs in the end of a game you were winning by a large margin whoopy to do. That didn't bother me one bit I thought it was funny.

But you guys are all high and mighty about not celebrating but you do it way more than you think you do.

Not reactive at all its blatant. Just because Saint Tebow does it makes it OK.

Right. Some small ass d back slapping Tebow? All 6'4" and 240 lbs of him? If you don't know, that's the d back who was talking shit before the game. He's a freshman. He's a dumb ass. As I said, that's the best 15 yard penalty Tebow's ever had.

Man Dawg, you must have some real asshole Gator fans around. There are Gator fans who are good regular people. I know that's hard to believe. The time out thing was simply pay back. I thought it was unnecessary though and didn't support Meyer doing it. But you're right, it was funny. Did you see the utube video of Richt scratching his nose with his middle finger? LMAO.

According to the reverential, worshipful announcers, it must have been the only penalty Tebow's ever had. Actually, its even more sweeping than that. After that penalty, one of the announcers actually said, "that's probably the first wrong Tebow has ever done in his life." :looking for a gag icon:

Those guys were just a tad over the top. I can see how it would get old to non-UF fans. All this St. Tebow shit. But it's not really his fault. He's just playing the game that he's passionate about. All the Tebow haters would not be haters if he played for their team. He's a gifted athlete. He's a good guy. He chose to play at Florida. I'm glad he did.

Guys, I'm quite happy. Like, absolutely fantastically happy. Especially if he accepts the offer. Tracy Rocker may once again be an Auburn Tiger. I was just a toddler when Bo was around, so Rocker was my favorite Auburn player growing up. Man, this will be so exciting!

I never said he wasn't a great player. I never said he doesn't have talent. I just don't see him as being the best player to ever play the game, that was stated several times by the announcers.

Look I think the game is over burdened with rules. I think they should be able to celebrate in the end zone, I think they should be able to celebrate on the side lines. I wouldn't have a problem with the gator chomp if every other team was allowed to express themselves too. Why are defensive guys allowed to celbrate after making tackles and back arent allowed to celbrate after scoring. To me it takes the FUN out of a GAME.

Yes, I have honestly never met one gator fan that wasn't so radical that I could stand to be in the room with them for more than 10 minutes. Same way with USC fans. I don't know if being in enemy territory or what but they just get on my nerves.

He was offered as DL coach. He's been in charge of the DL's at Arkansas and Ole Miss under Nutt's regimes. He still hasn't accepted the offer, although it's expected in the neighborhood of $400,000 (which appears to be our going rate for assistants). I think we'll definitely have one of the richest staffs in the conference (and nation).

Arkansas All-SEC DL (2005-2006):
Jamaal Anderson
Keith Jackson
Antwain Robinson

Ole Miss All-SEC DL (2008):
Peria Jerry
Greg Hardy
Lawon Scott

Not a bad result this season, and Anderson is an absolute beast (taken 8th overall in 2007).

C'mon, you know that's a lie. Thinks about the 80's Florida Gators fan. Or the 90's USC fan. They were tolerable back then. What really irks me are those people who show up one day with a Gators shirt on in rural Alabama. When you ask why they're wearing that shirt, they respond, 'Oh God, I've ALWAYS been a part of the Gator nation!' Oh really? So then you go on to ask them when they had been to BHG and they say they've never made the trip, but they've seen them on TV numerous amounts of times. Do they have family in Florida? Of course not... but they've been to Panama City, and that's just right down the street, right? Nope, that's the other school.

Back home, it's this way for Florida, Florida State, USC, Notre Dame, Miami. I'm sure its the same in most places. Some school captures the memories of your childhood and you latch on to them and become their 'biggest fan'. I do give credit to those people who actually attend football games, though. The one guy I mention about Notre Dame actually goes to South Bend on a regular basis. I'm not sure how many people outside of Miami-Dade that didn't like Notre Dame in the late 80s when Rice and Rocket, but this guy stuck with it throughout adulthood. Kind of odd.

But anyhow... sorry for the rant. Just brought back memories of this crackhead back home who just loves the Florida Gators, though she knows nothing about football (mysteriously the shirts started appearing not during the Spurrier era but during the recent championships in BB and FB).

I can't help that crackheads start liking a certain school. It is weird. I used to work in South Florida quite a bit. And out in the sticks. Like Imokolee sticks. There was this guy who did nothing but drive a tractor all day. Not gifted. Well, he wore a FSU shirt. Every day. A die hard fan. But had never been to FSU. Had never even been to Tallahassee. As much as I'm not a Semi-hole fan, people who went to school there and get a degree and are Seminoles for life can't help it that the dirty toothless tractor driver likes their team.

I'm not sure what in the hell the above has to do with anything. It just gets on my nerves that people hate the sports program of the university that I attended. Just because they went to a rival school. I went to the University of Florida. Took two degrees from there. Went to football games when I was there. I'm a FLORIDA FUCKING GATOR. And it doesn't mean I'm a dick (I'm really not, just ask my wife ). But that doesn't mean I hate any other team. I don't hate Dawgs. I pull for the Dawgs if they're not playing UF. I even pull for AU, even though we are 0 and 2 in the last two games we've played. I just don't get the hating part of it.

Anyway, rant off.

I agree with your sentiments, too much hatred in the rivalries.

jibi, I was one of the Nortre Dame fans in south florida during the canes dominance and it was rough. I do admit its been a few years since I went to a game (checking the schedule for next year now).

GO Gators!
