Stanford looked pretty impressive against VT in the second half. That was just an absolute beatdown.

It was amazing. Too bad they won't have their QB and Coach back next season. Back to mediocrity.

Nice article, thanks.

Absolutely no way to spin it, the Huskers totally sucked in the Holiday Bowl. Some of it was surely the same "didn't want to be here" syndrome that sunk Alabama against Utah a couple years ago, along with other teams. But not sure that explains it all, we really did look bad.

And no doubt either, the Big Ten bowl record this season, at 3-5, isn't good either - with OSU's win over Arkansas about the only bright spot.

I have to say though (and I most certainly know this won't be popular here) that I'm not so sure I'd want to be in the SEC. I fully expect that in a few years we'll be looking back on Auburn's season this year just like USC's of a few years ago. And I honestly don't understand the support from the rest of the conference fans, no matter how "dirty" the program may be. I frequent an Ohio State board now, with us joining the Big Ten and my wife being a Buckeye. The prevailing opinion there is that the Buck's players really should have been suspended for the Sugar Bowl, not wait until next season. And the infractions there are pretty minor, in comparison.

Here's yet another recent article about that wonderful Auburn athletic department:

Auburn Is First in One Ranking, 85th in Another

What do you think DF. I think Pelini could have handled this a wee bit better than he did.

No doubt he could have handled it better. Pelini's not and unfortunately likely never will be a golden-tongued press-charmer. And to make it worse, sometimes his temper gets the best of him - although that was NOT the case this time.

Having said this, that article was a hack job by a 2-bit reporter with a chip on her shoulder. I've watched the video replay of the postgame press conference. Contrary to her claim, Bo didn't look or act "sour" during his postgame press conference, and he certainly didn't "bark" at the woman. That's absolute BS. This was actually one of his better press conferences - although we'd just gotten thoroughly embarrassed he was calm and professional.

Just like her claim that "It was a gut-wrenching moment to witness" when talking to the sailor. She's forced to admit that the kid "displayed no anger", he "emphasized he's a Cornhuskers fan, and he stands behind his team. No matter what", he "would love another opportunity to attend a Nebraska football game with a field pass, preferably in Lincoln." But she keeps prying, asking him basically the same question over and over, trying her best to get him to say something bad about Pelini - but he doesn't - so she does it herself in the article - and claims her repeated attempts to get the kid to say more negative things was a "gut wrenching moment." Only gut-wrenching because it failed, repeatedly.

Here's a subsequent interview with the sailor, after her article was published:

Quote:
"I was never upset," Ryan said by phone from California, where he's stationed as an electronics technician aboard the aircraft carrier at Coronado's North Island. "I think he's a good coach, and I still love Nebraska football.

"It was enough to have me on the sideline."

The Foxsports.com column, written by Lisa Horne, described Pelini's actions as "disturbing" and "disingenuous." Horne depicted a disappointed Ryan and characterized his reaction to the revelation that Pelini was joking as "gut wrenching."

"It didn't affect me one way negatively," Ryan told The World-Herald.

Through an NU spokesman, Pelini reiterated on Wednesday his appreciation for the U.S. military. Athletic Director Tom Osborne, in response to e-mails, said he felt Pelini properly handled the situation.

Nebraska donated 500 tickets to the U.S. Marines for the Holiday Bowl. Nebraska fans purchased 1,685 tickets to the game for Navy and Marine personnel stationed in San Diego through the "Huskers for Heroes" program organized by Nebraska.

Additionally, Pelini and NU players have visited a Navy SEAL training complex while in San Diego the past two years.
No play-calling? NU fan in Navy took no offense

Yeah, I agree. a quarter of the way through the article, I was thinking 'Pelini is a dick'. By the end of the article I was thinking the the writer is an asshole with an axe to grind.

So - Muschamp as the new Gator HC, and now Weis as the OC. Definitely some headlines there! I know you already asked for opinions on the Weis hire - to be honest, I'm not sure what I think about that. Obviously, Weis was an outstanding OC at the NFL level, and just as obviously, he was a bad HC at the college level. OC at the college level - I just really am not sure what to think. What's your thoughts?

I want to think it's a great hire. He is a very good offensive mind. Look at KC last year compared to this year. I know it's pro vs. college, but he's been successful as an offensive coordinator. And I think he'll stick around for four years at least because his son is just now going to UF as a student. There are those who are worried about how his health could cause problems. It's a high profile hire. I think it'll be good for recruiting as well. It's a splashy headline. Remains to be seen how it will work out.

By the way, we're flying out in the morning at 8:55am. I'll be away for a bit, but I'll try and check in. I'm going to upload some photos to Facebook over the next few days, at the very least (DF, you can see them... others, feel free to add me on there).

In recruiting news, we have received 4 commitments since Wednesday at the two All-American football games.

Robenson Therezie: 4-star (#18 S on Rivals, #24 CB on Scout)
Quan Bray: 4-star (#16 ATH on Rivals, #19 RB on Scout)
Brent Calloway: 5-star (#2 OLB on Rivals, #7 OLB on Scout)
Kris Frost: 4-star (#4 ATH on Rivals, #18 OLB on Scout)

WOOT!

Also, this game has become the most expensive game in college football history, according to many ticket brokers. It is the most expensive ticket ever for StubHub (sports, concerts, etc). They are saying it is one of the top 5 most expensive sporting events in the last 20 years. A few nights ago, tickets were selling for around $5-7K/each! So glad I bought mine when I did, even if I thought $1,125/each was expensive at the time!

Good thing you're flying out of ATL today and not trying to make it tomorrow. I'm flying through ATL this morning after changing my flights from Monday morning. And by the way, this flight is at least 25% AU fans. All flying through DEN to get to the game.

AU is up to number 10 on Rivals. The Gators are a big WTF in recruiting so far. Man, we need to make a run.

Congrats Otto. Isn't it great? I watched the game here in Jackson Hole at the Wort Hotel. There were two people in about 50 who were hollering for AU. Me being one of them. Enjoy it. WAR EAGLE!

So the real question... can I safely drink the orange and blue koolaid without being ridiculed for being a homer? I'll post some pictures in a little bit... we had GREAT seats (worth the $1125/ea)!

Coach Jeff Grines, our O-Line coach, has turned down Texas and will remain at Auburn. Look for this to land us Christian Weserman, in all likelihood. A non-Auburn recruiting analyst predicted that Auburn would finish stronger than any other program on NSD... This should be similar to last season, if not moreso...

Still waiting for UF to make a move on the recruiting front. We are worse shape at this stage in the game than I can remember.

I bought a track jacket... not too big on "time pieces" ... however, I am having our tickets framed, but I need to figure out how I want to do it (some fans have great ideas, so I'm going to "steal" one of them... hehe).

If we end up signing a class like it appears we will, we may very well finish near the top of the Rivals team rankings. Our projected class remaining looks like this:

...near guarantees:
Erique Florence
Marcus Roberson
Brandon Fulse
Gabe Wright

...gaining strong momentum:
Christian Westerman
Isaiah Crowell
Savon Huggins
Ray Drew
Anthony Chickillo

This would give us a rating of 2,437 on Rivals team rankings, which would be the current high rating. I say we finish Top 5 in recruiting once again.

Updated my signature, to include the 2010 season. Nebraska went up the most and extended its lead, Texas fell behind Oklahoma, Alabama dropped the most (which seemed strange.)

Westerman to announce tomorrow... suspected decommitment from Texas and commitment to Auburn. Looks like we're now in the hunt for Cyrus Kouandjio, as well. That is Scout's top-rated OG and OT. Ouch...

I won't try to claim that we've got kids like that "almost committed" or anything of the like - way too early. I will say though, that Nebraska is on 15 of the 150 kids lists, vs. 8 who have Auburn on their lists. Oh, and of those 15 - 2 actually HAVE already committed to the Huskers.
He moved Auburn ahead of those other 15 schools...

Damn. AU's gonna have a great class if they can keep them all and get a couple more on the list. UF is still not doing much to move up. Still waiting.

If we pull Drew and Crowell, it will be one hell of a coup. Throw in Kouandjio or Collins and that will be absolutely ridiculous. Look at it this way, we're losing four of our five starters on the O-Line. Now look at the O-Line recruits we've had last year and potentially this year...

Shon Coleman - #3 OT 2010 (6'7 295 - has cancer and will not play until 2011)
Eric Mack - #6 OG 2010 (6'3 361)
Reese Dismukes - #1 OC 2011 (6'4 287)
Greg Robinson - #2 OG 2011 (6'5 296)
Christian Westerman - #3 OT 2011 (6'5 288)

Possible...

Cyrus Kouandjio - #1 OT 2011 (6'7 322)
La'El Collins - #2 OT 2011 (6'5 285)

Losing the experience, leadership, and total dominance of our O-Line is going to hurt us, but imagine this group in one year.

Now throw in Brandon Mosley, a JUCO transfer (19th overall prospect in JUCO last season) who is 6'6 299 and played RT this past season. Our line should average 6'5-6'6 300 before this season... and these boys are fast enough to be able to block and run in the spread, as well. WOW!

Damn, keep waiting to get excited about the UF class! We've been spoiled over the last five to six years with top five, if not top one or two recruiting classes. Now we're just over a week away from signing and we have what, a class ranked 18th? Come on!

30 Seconds to Mars (Jared Leto is the lead singer) at the College Football's Biggest Party event.

They released a bald eagle (Challenger) to circle the field during the national anthem. With this being a tradition at Jordan-Hare, Auburn fans were obviously torn between singing the Star Spangled Banner or cheering "WAAAAAR EAGLE!" ... I believe most opted for the latter at some point.

This is the first time I've ever been able to capture our band's interlocking AU without it being distorted...

LaMichael James being destroyed

Wes Byrum kicks the winning FG... NATIONAL CHAMPS!

Cam rushes for 6 yards

NATIONAL CHAMPS!

We decided to stay home today. Unfortunately, we made the decision to stay home. This was really our first weekend that we could be at home with nothing to do and nowhere to go in about 5 months. We'll be out of town for the next 3 weekends straight, so we simply needed a break... I watched it online and I definitely regret our decision to not be there!

Looked like quite a party. But I don't blame you for needing some down time. You made the most important party anyway.

Check this out... LMAO! An Oregon sports photographer took over 200 photos of the stadium over a long period of the game and stitched them together to make a giant zoomable panoramic photo from the game. AMAZING! Now check out what Brandee and me are doing... LMAO!

From all the empty seats, I'm assuming the picture of us was taken just prior to the game. I was likely adjusting my camera for the indoor setting and taking some test shots and looking at them. Brandee was definitely on her BB, though. LOL!
