Default KB15788 - Policy logs grow rapidly and service books and IT policy won't send

KB15788 - Policy logs grow rapidly and service books and IT policy commands cannot be sent to BlackBerry smartphones after upgrading to BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.5 or later

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 5 (4.1.5) or later for Microsoft® Exchange
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 5 (4.1.5) or later for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
  • Microsoft® SQL Server® 2000 and 2005
  • SDR193084
  • SDR192454

Overview

After upgrading to BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.5 or later when using a remote Microsoft SQL Server to host the BlackBerry Configuration Database, service books and IT policy commands cannot be sent to BlackBerry smartphones.
The BlackBerry Policy Service log grows rapidly in size and displays the following errors:
[20000] (05/28 11:48:33.538):{0x1A54} SCS::PollDBQueueNewRequests - CheckITPolicyInSBGroup failed for EntryId 1118, command ignored.

[40000] (05/28 11:48:33.569):{0x1A54} ITAdminAPI::UpdateITAdminQueueItem - No records updated in database for entry id 1136

[20000] (05/28 11:48:33.569):{0x1A54} SCS::CheckITPolicyInGroup - Failed to update IT Admin Queue Item

[20000] (05/28 11:48:33.569):{0x1A54} SCS::PollDBQueueNewRequests - CheckITPolicyInSBGroup failed for EntryId 1135, command ignored.

Cause

Functional changes to the Database Notification System (DBNS) implemented in BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.5 and later require the RimEsp.dll file to be updated manually when hosting the BlackBerry Configuration Database on a remote Microsoft SQL Server.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Stop the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services. Important: Restarting certain BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.
  2. From the installation files for the version of BlackBerry Enterprise Server software that is installed, go to the tools\DBNS folder and copy the RimEsp.dll file. For example, if the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version after the upgrade is 4.1.5, then copy the RimEsp.dll file from BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.5 installation files.
  3. On the Microsoft SQL Server that hosts the BlackBerry Configuration Database, paste the RimEsp.dll file in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Binn. Make sure that you are replacing the exisiting RimEsp.dll file in this folder.
  4. Start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services.
