KB16007 - How to block the use of the Application Loader tool in BlackBerry Desktop Manager through a policy on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange


Environment

  • BlackBerry® Desktop Software 3.5 and later
  • BlackBerry® Device Software 3.5 and later
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 4.0 and later for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 4.0 and later for Microsoft® Exchange
  • BlackBerry® Web Desktop Manager 1.0 and later



Overview

To block the use of the Application Loader tool using IT policies on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, complete the following steps:
For BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.x for Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Domino:
  1. Open BlackBerry Manager.
  2. Select BlackBerry Domain and Edit Properties.
  3. Navigate to IT Policy object, then click Edit to modify the Default IT Policy or click create a New IT Policy.
  4. Open the IT policy selected and navigate to Desktop-Only Items.
  5. Set the Show Application Loader policy to False.
  6. Assign this IT policy to specific BlackBerry smartphone users by right-clicking a BlackBerry smartphone user in Server> User's tab > Assign IT Policy.
For BlackBerry Server 4.0.x for Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Domino:
  1. Open BlackBerry Manager.
  2. Right-click the selected BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  3. Select IT Policy.
  4. In the IT Policy Settings dialog box, choose to Edit the Default IT Policy or Create a new IT Policy.
  5. In the IT policy, turn on Show Application Loader and set the value to False.
  6. Click Yes when you are prompted to send the update to BlackBerry smartphone users assigned to this IT policy, or resend the policy to each BlackBerry smartphone user individually.
