KB15678 - Unable to complete BlackBerry Configuration Database upgrade when re-installing after a previously unsuccessful installation attempt

Environment

* BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 and 4.1 Service Pack 1 (4.1.1)

Overview

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator tries to upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 2 (4.1.2). When the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation program tries to upgrade the BlackBerry Configuration Database, the following error message is displayed:

The database already exists and is a pre 3.5 database. Updating a pre 3.5 database is not supported. Delete the database and retry or manually update it.


This situation occurs when trying to re-install BlackBerry Enterprise Server software prior to BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.2.

Cause

When upgrading to BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.2 and later, the BlackBerry Configuration Database schema version is modified to display 4.1.2. If an earlier version of BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1 is installed, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installation program will not recognize this version string and will display the error message described in the Overview section.

Resolution

Use the full installation package for BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.2 and later. These packages are available either by logging in to the Enhanced Technical Knowledge Center (TSupport only) or by contacting BlackBerry® Technical Support Services.
