Default KB12915 - Database Notification System not functioning after moving the database.....

KB12915 - Database Notification System not functioning after moving the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a new SQL Server

Environment

* BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1

Overview

After moving the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a new Microsoft SQL Server™ you may notice some of the following symptoms:

* After adding a new user the Mailbox Agent ID is 0. Restarting the BlackBerry Dispatcher assigns the BlackBerry device user to an Agent ID immediately
* BlackBerry device users that have been removed do not clear from the Users Pending Delete section of the BlackBerry Manager unless they are manually purged, or if you restart the BlackBerry Dispatcher
* Enterprise Activation process appears to stop responding at Waiting for services stage

Cause

The Database Notification Service (DBNS) is not registered on the new Microsoft SQL Server.

When the DBNS is installed the BlackBerry Configuration Database is updated with information that notifies the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to wait for configuration changes pushed from the Microsoft SQL Server. After moving the BlackBerry Configuration Database to a new Microsoft SQL Server, the DBNS system is not installed nor registered but it is still reflected in the BlackBerry Configuration Database.

Resolution

Complete the following steps:

1. Stop all BlackBerry Enterprise Server services and close any open BlackBerry Manager consoles.
2. Back up the BlackBerry Configuration Database.
3. In the SQL Query Analyzer, browse to the :\\Database\DBInstallScripts\SQLServer\4.1 folder on the installation media.
4. Open the NotifyUnInstall.sql file and run the script.

Note: You may receive an error stating that DBCC cannot free the DLL RimEsp.dll.
5. Restart the SQL Server Service.
6. Restart the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services. Please refer to KB13718 for more information on restarting the BlackBerry services.

Additional Information

Please refer to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Installation Guide for further information about re-installing the DBNS.
