KB10988 - Messages are lost after BlackBerry Messaging Agent login

Environment

* BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 2 (4.1.2)
* Novell® GroupWise®
* SDR107886

Overview

BlackBerry device users do not receive email messages and calendar items sent during a period when connection to GroupWise service is temporarily unavailable. However, after the BlackBerry Messaging Agent logs in again, messages are not processed.

The following BlackBerry Messaging Agent (MAGT) log line is noted while the issue occurs:

[30050] (10/12 12:11:58.093):{0x1404} NEW MAIL ITEM ARRIVED FOR INACTIVE OR NON-EXISTANT USER Note that this log line may also indicate that a 'NEW CALENDAR ITEM' arrived instead of mail during the temporary GroupWise outage.
Cause

The problem is a result of a fix for an issue that occurs in BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1. In that issue (documented in KB05250 and SDR91242), a temporary outage or disconnection from the GroupWise system occurs, and the BlackBerry Messaging Agent process does not restart automatically when other GroupWise processes restart.

Workaround

Restart the BlackBerry Controller to receive the lost messages or calendar items.

This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.
