KB10090 - Unable to reconcile deleted items from the BlackBerry smartphone to IBM Lotus Notes

Environment

  • BlackBerry® smartphone
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
  • IBM® Lotus Notes®

Overview

Items deleted on the BlackBerry smartphone are not deleted on IBM Lotus Notes.

Cause

There are multiple potential causes for this issue.
  1. The BlackBerry® Enterprise Server does not have permission to delete documents in the BlackBerry smartphone user's mail file.
  2. The BlackBerry smartphone is configured to delete items on the BlackBerry smartphone only.

Resolution

Cause 1

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server does not have permission to delete documents in the BlackBerry smartphone user's mail file.
Resolution

Ensure the Manager Access and Delete Documents attributes are enabled for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server on the BlackBerry smartphone user's mail file ACL (Access Control List).
To add the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the BlackBerry smartphone user's mail file ACL using IBM Lotus Notes, complete the following steps:
Note: To assign an access level to a user or server, you must have Manager Access permissions on the IBM Lotus Notes database.
  1. Open the BlackBerry smartphone user's mail file using IBM Lotus Notes.
  2. Click File > Database > Access Control.
  3. Click Basics > Add.
  4. Type the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the name of the server group the BlackBerry Enterprise Server belongs to (e.g LocalDomainServers) and click OK.
  5. Make sure the BlackBerry smartphone user you just added is selected in the list of BlackBerry smartphone users, and then configure whether the BlackBerry smartphone user is a server or group in the User type list.
  6. Select the Manager Access level from the Access level list.
  7. Select the Delete Documents option.
  8. Click OK to apply the changes.

Cause 2

The BlackBerry smartphone is configured to delete items on the BlackBerry smartphone only.
Resolution 2

Complete the following steps:
  1. On the BlackBerry smartphone, open the Message list.
  2. Click the Menu key and select Options.
  3. Click Email Reconciliation.
  4. Set the Delete On field to Mailbox and Handheld.
  5. Click the Menu key and select Save.
