Default KB16453 - Error occurred executing a SQL statement when attempting to upgrade....

KB16453 - Error occurred executing a SQL statement when attempting to upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.6 for Novell GroupWise

Environment

* BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 6 (4.1.6) for Novell® GroupWise®
* Microsoft® SQL Server® 2000
* Microsoft® SQL Server® Desktop Engine 2000 (MSDE 2000)
* SDR255895

Problem

During the schema update process for BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.6 for Novell GroupWise, the following error occurs:

An attempt to upgrade the database was unsuccessful. An error occurred executing a SQL statement.

Selecting OK will restart the database update, which will report the same error; selecting Cancel will stop the upgrade.

The following lines can be found in the installer log files: (The default location for the logs is C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Logs\Installer)

Resolution

This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.

Workaround

To workaround this issue, perform one of the following methods.

Note: Run the attached SQL scripts prior to running the setup.exe file from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.6 for Novell GroupWise update

Method 1

If Enterprise Manager is available for Microsoft SQL Server 2000, load the attached SQL files in Query Analyzer and run the files while connected to the BlackBerry Configuration Database.

Perform the following steps:

1. Open SQL Query Analyzer.
2. Depending on your environment, choose the appropriate authentication type.
3. From the drop-down list on the tool bar, select the BlackBerry Configuration Database.
4. From the SQL Query Analyzer File menu, select Open, browse to the location of the extracted SQL scripts and then select NumFailures.sql.
5. On the toolbar, click the blue check mark button to confirm that the syntax of the query statements is correct.
6. If the syntax is correct, click the green play button to run the script.
7. Repeat steps 4 through 6 using the PrevFolderID.sql and SearchId.sql script files.

Method 2

From a command line, run the attached SQL scripts through the OSQL utility. An example using Windows® Authentication against the default BlackBerry Configuration Database (the default name is BESMgmt) is as follows:

osql -E -d BESMgmt -i NumFailures.sql

Repeat the command for the PrevFolderID.sql and SearchId.sql script files.

Additional Information

If you are unable to continue with the update, roll back the BlackBerry Configuration Database by restoring a backup of the database from an earlier version before the upgrade. By default, the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server installer will automatically create a backup of the BlackBerry Configuration Database prior to the update.
