KB10555 - Best practices for installing a BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange service pack

Overview

<content> The following are recommended practices for installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server software for Microsoft Exchange:
Task 1 - Back Up the BlackBerry Configuration Database
Open a command prompt on the computer hosting the BlackBerry Configuration Database and type the following commands:
osql -E
1> backup database besmgmt to disk = "c:\backup_before_upgrade.bak"
2> go
1> quit

Task 2 - Stop the BlackBerry services and record login account information

Complete the following steps:
  1. In the Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools > Services.
  2. Stop each BlackBerry Enterprise Server service. Important: Restarting certain BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.
  3. For each BlackBerry Enterprise Server service, do the following:
    1. Open the Properties window and change the Startup type to Manual.
    2. Click the Log On tab, and in the Log on as section, record the account name from the This account field.
    Warning: For the BlackBerry Attachment Service, always log in with the Local System Account. Do not change this setting.
  4. Close the Services window and the Control Panel.
  5. Make sure you are logged in to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server using the account specified for BlackBerry Enterprise Server services.
  6. Double-click setup.exe to start the installation.
  7. After the installation process is complete, you must complete the BlackBerry Configuration Database wizard.
  8. Make sure that all the fields in the BlackBerry Configuration Database wizard are complete and confirm that the pre-populated fields match the previous settings.
  9. With the Start Services option selected, click Finish. Note: If you plan on installing hotfixes for the service pack, clear the Start Services option before clicking Finish. Then, proceed with the Service Pack installation.
  10. In the Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools > Services.
  11. Confirm that all BlackBerry services are started. The startup type should now be set to Automatic.
  12. Open BlackBerry Manager.
  13. Confirm that the Server Routing Protocol (SRP) status is Connected.
