Default KB16123 - Unable to change the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service mapping

KB16123 - Unable to change the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service mapping

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 6 (4.1.6)
  • Microsoft® SQL Server® Desktop Engine (MSDE)

Overview

This problem occurs when failing over between an active and a passive BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance by restoring the BlackBerry Configuration Database from the active SQL or MSDE node to the passive one without running the BlackBerry Configuration Database wizard to update the BlackBerry Configuration Database.
The following error is received when trying to change the MDS CS to BES Mappings field on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server:
Not able to map the enterprise server to the connection service as it is already serviced by another connection service

Cause

The ServerConfigID and MDSConfigID values were not updated in the RelationSCMDS table in the BlackBerry Configuration Database.

Resolution

Update the BlackBerry Configuration Database using the BlackBerry Configuration Database wizard.
In the BlackBerry Server Configuration Panel, click the Database Connectivity tab and perform the change database task. Continue through the BlackBerry Configuration Database wizard by pointing to the database to completion.
At the end of the wizard, verify that the BlackBerry® Mobile Data System (BlackBerry MDS) Connection Service has been restarted. If not, update the MDS CS to BES Mappings field.
Important: Restarting certain BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.

Additional Information

For information on how to update the MDS CS to BES Mappings field, see KB10655.
When the issue occurs, the log files display the following entries:
[ODBCRecord:oCreateRecord] SQL = "SET NOCOUNT ON; INSERT INTO
RelationSCMDS (ServerConfigId, MDSConfigId) VALUES (?, ?) ; SELECT
SCOPE_IDENTITY(); SET NOCOUNT OFF".

[ODBCRecord:oCreateRecord] DATA = "ServerConfigId[1] MDSConfigId[1] ".
