KB11375 - Error occurred saving changes to the BlackBerry Configuration Database


Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.0 and later for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 and later for Microsoft® Exchange
  • Microsoft® SQL Server®


Overview

When trying to make changes in BlackBerry Manager, the following error message, as seen in the BlackBerry Manager log file (MNGR), is displayed:
[0x80040E14 The log file for database 'BESMgmt' is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to free up some log space.] Source: [Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server] SQL State: [42000] NativeError: [9002]


Cause

The transaction log file for the BlackBerry Configuration Database is full.


Resolution

To reduce the database transaction log file size when running Microsoft SQL Server, complete the following steps in sequence:
Note: The BlackBerry Enterprise Server must be shut down while this operation is being completed.
Important: Restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.
Task A
Complete the following steps:
  1. Open the SQL Enterprise Manager by navigating to Start > Programs > Enterprise Manager.
  2. Go to Microsoft SQL Servers >SQL Server Group > > Databases, where is the name of the Microsoft SQL Server instance hosting the BlackBerry Configuration Database.
  3. Right-click the BlackBerry Configuration Database name (for example, BESMgmt) and click All Tasks > Shrink Database.
  4. Click OK, then click OK again when the process finishes.

Task B
Complete the following steps:
  1. In the SQL Enterprise Manager, click Tools > SQL Query Analyzer.
  2. In the SQL Query Analyzer, type the following (without the quotes): 'backup log with truncate_only'
    where is the name of the BlackBerry Configuration Database (for example BESMgmt).
  3. Press F5 to process the query.
  4. When the query is complete, close the SQL Query Analyzer.

Task C
Complete the following steps:
  1. Right-click the BlackBerry Configuration Database name in the SQL Enterprise Manager, then click All Tasks > Backup Database.
  2. Type a location for the backup files and click OK.
  3. Click OK when the process finishes.

Task D
Complete the following steps:
  1. Right-click the BlackBerry Configuration Database name in the SQL Enterprise Manager, then click Properties.
  2. Click the Options tab.
  3. Check that the Recovery Model is set to Simple.
  4. If it is not set to Simple, change and then stop and start the Microsoft SQL Service.
