HSPDA Modem Ports
I have a Blackberry Bold which I use as an HSPDA Modem whether tethered or by Bluetooth. I am on a BES Environment but have a totally open policy on my own device. I am connecting using Vodafone as my carrier and can do so all over Europe.
I have two sets of questions about what I am actually doing when I connect in this way:
1) I am told that the maximum modem speed could be 3MBits but my actual speed seems to be constrained by the port speeds on my PC. How do I boost this speed beyond the 1 Mega Bit listed maximum of Windows XP?
2) When my Blackberry passes my modem traffic too and from the Internet which port does it use. I have set up with a dial up modem connection over Internet. Am I using 3101 or port 80 for this connection in practice from my device. How does this work? Does my request to see a page on Internet Explorer on my PC for example go direct to he internet then to my carrier, then net.rim and then to target destination (some times a VPN connection sometimes open) and then back again to my handheld with required response?
