Default How do I remove BES from an ebay BB 9000 ?

Bought the Blackberry..all works fine BUT when I try to setup email, the only option is to use BES.
I have wiped the unit several times, & reloaded the operating system...alas, no joy.

Do you have a BlackBerry data plan? A plain old ordinary data plan will NOT work. Without it you wont have the option to configure non-BES email accounts.

The IT policy may be set to disallow other message services. If this is the case, the email setup application does not display on the device. Wiping the device or reloading device software will not remove the current IT policy. Perform the following to set the IT policy to default.

- Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager and perform a backup of your device if you have any information on it.

- Open command prompt and point to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader

- Enter: loader.exe /resettofactory

This will wipe everything from the device and set the IT policy back to default.

Default Thanks for your replies

I do have a current BB data plan on my 8700, which I am using to get the 9000 up & running.
I have used BBSAK several times to wipe the 9000 clean (ie back to 507 status) & then reloaded the operating system, but the BES always returns when I try to set up my Hotmail account. I am assuming the above is the same, if not better, than using apploader resettofactory ?
It is really strange..and very annoying. I have scoured the internet, but it appears I the only one in the world who has this problem!

What do you mean the BES always returns? Does the Desktop icon display? Are you trying to set up Hotmail via the Email Setup app on the BlackBerry? Or are you going through the carrier BIS site?

1. Are you trying to set up Hotmail via the Email Setup app on the BlackBerry?
YES-the unit boots up fine, can make calls etc but when I try to setup my Hotmail account email, the "You Need to contact your BES Admin etc etc " message shows up.
2. Or are you going through the carrier BIS site
NO (not as far as I know)

Try logging into the carrier's BIS web site to set up your hotmail account. If you can't log in, you'll have to contact the carrier to have them reset the password. Try this and see what happens.

I have another semi-working BB (mouseball knackered but still usable) that works fine with my hotmail account & sim card that I have tried in the 9000, so do you think I still need to login to the Vodafone BIS ?

PS Do you think I may have an incorrect vendor.xml or policy.bin file loaded ?

BIS accounts are associated with device PIN & IMEI so your test with the other device just verifies that the other BlackBerry has a working BIS account and it works with Hotmail. I would still try to log in via Vodafone's BIS site. You may have to contact Vodafone to have the BIS account associated with your Bold reset.

vendor.xml is only used to determine what carrier software is supposed to be installed on your device but can be deleted to install another carrier's software on your BB. policy.bin doesn't matter here because you've done wipes to bring your device to factory default (unless you've done something else that I'm not aware of).

Performing a wipe is not the same as performing a resettofactory. Try the resettofactory option and the policy should clear right off. To see if you have a policy, open the security options then general settings and scroll to the bottom to see if one is listed. My guess is, from the above posts, that it does.

Smile Success!

Thanks guys. It appears the problem (or "feature") was having to re-register the "new" Blackberry via BIS once the unit was operational on the Vodafone network, adding PIN & IMEI etc. Phew.
I did then have a problem with no sound ie ringtones etc on the 9000, but a quick search showed a chap pushing some padding behind a slot above the camera.
You have one very happy camper.
