Certification and Carreer path question...
Ok, I ordered the books from ElementK, or had my job order them for me, so I can start reading them over and taking the RIM certification tests. I have a couple of questions though...
1. I'm trying to go for ALL of the RIM certifications, PMP, and MS Exchange right after it as I want to be the BlackBerry Program Manager for my organization. Do you think that's the correct path?
2. Can anyone help me in finding the materials for BES5.0 study? Just incase the books that my company ordered are for the earlier versions.
3. I already have an Associates, Bachelors and double-Master's degree so I figure that the certifications are just about the only thing that can help me get further in my job as my niches are BlackBerries and Security / Penetration Testing. What do you think?

1. If you want to set your sights at that level, then yes. However, with those certifications (BCSD/BCSA, PMP, and MCITP-EMA), you could be much more, in my opinion.
2. Study for the BES 4.1.x certification and add in the documentation for BES 5.0. In all honesty, it's not that hard and there's not much additional information in the BES 5.0 certification (I passed mine without ever seeing BES 5.0).
3. I have to ask again - do you really want to be that only? Perhaps a Director of Mobility would be a more suiting title? With those qualifications, including the certifications, I just think you're setting your goals too low. Of course, this is just my opinion, but I think you could be doing a lot more with all of those papers.

Otto,
I believe that the Director of Mobility is the same as the BlackBerry Program Manager within my current company. But I'm looking at that or higher, depending on where I can go with it.
So you say to study for the BES4.1.x certification, those are the books that I can get from ElementK, correct? And the BES5.0 stuff, I'll just have to get off of the RIM website?
I appreciate your insight and will have many more questions in the future posted here as I try to get the RIM certifications.
Thanks!

I'm assuming ElementK has them - I believe that's the name I've heard in the past. I've honestly never looked into studying for one of these exams.
I would recommend studying from the Feature and Technical Overview, the Planning Guide, the Installation and Configuration Guide, the Administration Guide, and the Monitoring Guide from RIM's website. Also, if you're not familiar with the interface, I would highly recommend starting there. Aside from real world knowledge, I'm not really sure how helpful the ElementK training material will be (or RIM's for that matter).

It's scenario based. There's no real helping for that type of test. You would want to study all of the above documents, in addition to the performance guides. At some point, either you know it or you don't. As it is multiple choice, there's a good amount of deduction that you can do to obtain the correct answer in most cases. It's been almost a year since I took that exam, so I really don't remember much of it, to be honest.
