Default Firmware downgrade/DM issues

Got a bit of a brain teaser today. I'm trying to downgrade the firmware on my Bold and have come across a couple of issues. First off, I hate Desktop Manager (or RIM Bloat Manager as I call it) and always just run the loader.exe for firmware upgrades. I removed the firmware I was running, installed the prior version I want back on my device (and removed the vendor.xml) and ran the loader. The problem I've got is the loader doesn't pick up the firmware and therefore doesn't prompt me for anything.

So I tried the old fashioned way in ran RIM Bloat Manager, but oddly it sat there 'Working' (I'm on a BES by the way) and just remained 'Working' and greyed out. So I assumed something had fallen to bits with my install, so I uninstalled DM, reinstalled, ran the loader again, nothing prompted, ran the full DM to go in via application loader and it's still sat 'working'. To stop it I have to pull up the Task Manager and kill it, and I've got nothing reported in my event viewer to go off.

Anyone got any ideas?

Remove any Bold OS on your pc
Reboot
Install Bold OS you want
delete vendor.xml
use jl_cmder to remove os from HH
use loader.exe to install os

that's what I do when installing older versions.

Yeah I know I could do that, but it just means I have to go through the whole backup/restore nightmare and I've still got to sort out my weird DM issue!

Well this is going from bad to worse. So I ditched the device using jl_cmder and ran the loader, which then came up with:
Quote:
"a newer version of the application loader is required to load the system software"
after connecting to the boot ROM.

I've tried 2 different versions of the Bold OS on two different machines using both the loader and DM to run the installer (oh and have also tried to use 2 different versions of DM) and I get the same result every time. I just can't get any OS going. I'm starting to think this is something screwed on my device.

Try installing one of the 5.0 beta OS on your PC it should update the loader.exe.

Already tried and failed!

I've come to the conclusion that there's something very screwed about the beta OS I was running and its interaction with the app loader element of DM. That's Bold number 4 for me!!!!

Last guess for me... Try launching loader.exe with the -nojvm switch.
loader.exe -nojvm
