Question sync / reconcile times...

Morning / Afternoon all...

I'm on BES 4.0 (yes, I know, less of the jokes, please - LOL) and wanted to know what the average sync / reconcile time is/should be?

At present, a user receives an email in Outlook (Exchange 2003) and their BlackBerry (BOLD's, Curve's, etc), they read it, but, it will be anything from 14-20 minutes before it's marked as read on the BlackBerry...

I've done multiple searches on this, and seem to get various responses.

So, what say you?

Ivan

someone else feel free to chime in, but it was my understanding that this is about normal. unless you force the reconcile now option, it just does it every 10-20 minutes. im not sure what drives this but we have about the same times in our environment (4.1.6, 12,000 users, sql 2000, e2k3)

Thanks for your reply, RadHaz75.

...from the server, I take it there is a service I can start/restart to help it along, no?

I see this post, also covers a little.

Reconciliation is done in prioritized batches. Depending on server load at any given moment, sometimes reconciliation will occur in almost real-time, but could take up to 20 minutes or so.

This is the way BES is designed to function.
You shouldn't be stopping/starting services to "help it along".

Up to 30 minutes is normal.
The user's mailbox size can also impact the reconciliation times for all BlackBerry users on the BES. Extremely large mailboxes will take longer to scan, therfore holding on to the thread until completed. Only so many worker threads run in parallel & they do not start scanning another mailbox until finished scanning the entire contents of the previous mailbox. The longer it takes to scan a mailbox for changes e.g. Email opened or deleted, the longer it will take to reconcile those changes with the handheld. One large mailbox can impact all users on the BES.
