Default Question about changing device

I had a Bold syncing to my BES without any issues. I borrowed a Storm and when I connected it to Desktop Manager, it asked if I want to replace with device with the Bold Pin to the Storm Pin and I said yes. It then went on producing some random key.

Anyways, on my BES, I issued a new activation password for the Storm but it seems that when I try to activate the device, it goes thru the very first step where it says my email address is active but it never goes beyond that where service books are sent.

I'm thinking that maybe something went wrong with the account on the BES. However, if I delete the account from BES and then re-add it, will I lose all the data associated with the account such as my custom dictionary, BB Messenger list, etc. et.c?

Using the Desktop Manager you already did a wired activation - that's why it asked for PIN switch and encryption key generation. Therefore it is not necessary anymore to do a wireless activation.

Go to options > advanced options > service books and make sure you have all the Desktop books. Also go to Enterprise Activation and see the last activated time (listed just below the email/password/server fields)

Even after it did that, I did not have any information on my BB- contacts, emails etc. Nothing was there so I thought I'd do a server activation directly.

The Enterprise Activation screen is stuck to "Activating" and while all NEW emails start coming in, none of the old emails, contact, calendar events, BB Messenger contacts etc. show up. It never gets to the screen where it shows you the status of Services Books sync.

I would cancel the activation and start it again. Make sure to delete all of the Desktop service books after cancelling. Then begin the activation again.

Tried that already as well- even wiped the handhelp a couple of times and re-did activation directly through server without involving the Desktop Manager. Yet, it seems to get stuck every time.

I connected the Old (Bold) to Desktop Manager and it asked if I wanted to replace the device and then went through that encryption key generation process. Is it possible to use the WiFi on the Bold to check my mails etc.? I could put the SIM card back in it but if its WiFi, it would be easier/faster

I have never tried that. But it is easy to test. Turn on WiFi on the device and see if the WiFi logo turns from grey to black/white. Try to send an email.

WiFi didnt work but after I installed the SIM card on the Bold, it started working. So what I did was use the Device Migration tool in Desktop Manager and that made the Storm work without issues. Played around with the Storm for a few hours- what a horrible device! Went back to Bold.
