Default BB Messenger setup

I did a search on this but was unable to find anything so I apologize if it has been asked before.

I run a very small BES (11 users) and am looking for a smooth way to roll out PIN messaging to the users. Is there any way to automate the process instead of going to each phone and adding users one by one?

Thanks for your help!!

Unfortunately no, there is no way around that. You can use the Lookup feature to add them, though, instead of actually typing in each PIN (in case you didn't already know that).

Pelvir, I haven't tried this and I'm not certain it would work, but... Try setting up a 'template' for BBM and simply making a backup of the BlackBerry Messenger device database to an IPD file and then doing a restore to each of the other devices in question. In theory, the users would need to open BBM and configure their own information in there. Again, I've never tested this, so I'm not sure if it's even possible (I know the BBM invites have an encrypted key for completing the relationship, but it *may* work). Then again, it could cause mass confusion and chaos with constantly updating PIN numbers on everyone's messenger lists. Needless to say, it's worth trying out if you (or someone else) haven't already.

So I gave it a shot and when I restored to the new phone got the following message, "You switched to a new device. Do you want to notify your contacts about it? (Otherwise your contacts will be lost)."

I chose no since I didn’t want everyone to think I changed my device and all of the contacts disappeared.

So in essence it did work, however the backup was tied to my device PIN. I wonder if there is a way to edit the file to make the restoration possible?

Check out: Free download ABC Amber BlackBerry Editor, edit contacts in IPD files

I can't speak specifically to it as I haven't used it ... but it may be worth a shot.
