If a user configures an email filter from their device and performs a
Select Name (address lookup) results in a ‘FirstName LastName’ value on the name fields (
From,
Sent to, etc) to select a name from the GAL, the filter will not work. The reason the filter does not work is that the returned name (e.g. – Jim Brown) does not match the Display Name in the directory (e.g. – Brown, Jim).
Should your company use ‘FirstName LastName’ as your Display Name, then the filters will work as expected (assuming that something additional is not tagged to the end of the display name – e.g. Jim Brown (DOJ)).
To reproduce the issue, you can do the following:
On the device, click on
Messages. Click the menu button or trackwheel and select
Options from the menu. Click on
Email Filters. Click the menu button or trackwheel and select
New from the menu. For
Filter Name, type
Test. For the
From field, click the menu button or trackwheel and select
Select Name from the menu. Perform a Lookup on an account of one of your co-workers. This should result in a ‘FirstName LastName’ (e.g. – [Jim Brown]). Select their name to populate the
From field. For
Action, select
Forward. Place a check in
Forward as Level 1 Notification. Save the filter.
After about one minute, have your co-worker send a test. This should result in a message being received that is no different than any other message (black and bold text in the message list).
Go back and edit the filter. Remove the content of the
From field. Manually type your co-worker’s email address (e.g. –
jim.brown@doj.gov) into the
From field and save the filter.
After about one minute, have your co-worker send another test. This should result in a message being received that is marked as a Level 1 notification (red and bold text in the message list).
As a workaround, you can direct users to manually change the
From field to use email addresses or the exact Display Name of the user(s) being added to the filter.
