User cannot send but can receive email on BB device

Just thought I'd throw this out for you all for a resolution...
Ok so here's the scenario...I have a BES server 4.1.4.16 that talks with a GroupWise 8.1 environment.
I have a BES user who is able to receive email on his BlackBerry device, is able to reply/forward to these received emails. However, when he wants to send a new email message, he gets the red X and a message error: "Unlisted message error".
He is the only user that is having this issue...quite a few users have upgraded their GroupWise Client from 7 to 8 (but this shouldn't matter) and they are able to send/receive email with no errors whatsoever.
To isolate the issue, first I removed his account and readded it on the BES server and completed the enterprise activation - same problem. I also did a security wipe of the handset and then reactivated the device on the BES server - same problem.
I even tried deleting the Desktop[] service books from the handset and regenerated the encryption key on the device - same problem.
RIM says that it may be a GroupWise issue where the nwaguard.db file is corrupted and may not have an owner on the Post Office.
What is coincidental is that as soon as the user upgraded his GroupWise client on his laptop to GroupWise 8, the problem started happening which is really strange...
Can anyone help me out in resolving the issue?
