Default What do YOU think about Port 3101?

I'm a bit biased, but I believe we bring something to the online BlackBerry community that has not been offered to date - an exclusively focused community specifically for the men and women behind the curtains that make the magic happen. I've received great feedback from industry colleagues and even from some people at RIM, but the most important feedback we can receive are from the people who are active within this community (either the typists or the voyeurs).

So while my mind is set on the value of the website and the collective knowledge of the members who have already joined in on the conversation, I'd like to know your opinions as well. Usually these sort of questions are sent via email and often kept behind closed doors, however I want this to be an open discussion. If you have ideas about what will make the forum better, voice your opinion. If you want to see a change, make the suggestion.

Obviously with WES happening in just over a month, we are anticipating a rather large growth in membership and content, so we wanted to say thanks to those of you who have helped Port 3101 through a successful launch prior to when it became the popular kid at school. With that said, what do YOU think about the site?

P.S. - We have upcoming plans to expand the website with the inclusion of a blog, which will be geared towards administrators and technical minds (software reviews, best practices, tips and tricks, etc). We have already begun doing reviews of industry software and I have plans to make this a recurring theme with the website. Twitter is on our to-do list (err, mine). Promotional contests will be on the horizon, as well.

Not a big thing but what about some info, don't know if there is any here. On the befnefit of BES for a company starting out, what's good about it, what are the security options. Just a thought. what's involved in setting it up and keeping it running. I for one have never used it and really don't know a whole lot about it.

I like this forum, I think it was needed in the industry. I've noticed at other forums, they have a BES section, but, it gets lost among the "How do I get my email on my BlackBerry?" forum questions.

At least I know when I come here, I can't be sidetracked in my pursuit of getting a BES question answered, or in helping someone else with a BES question...

So, I'm sitting and waiting to see this website develop...

I like this site and I agree that its something that was needed--there are plenty of sites that focus on the user experience with BlackBerry devices, and the sections of those sites devoted to BES administration get diluted. I feel like if you post a question here, you are going to get an accurate answer because a lot of the members have real world experience with this stuff.
I hope as more people get on board that it stays rooted in the technical aspects of BES management.
I also like the idea of reviews of products--that's something that just isn't out there in the interwebs that I would find great value in. For a lot of BES specific products, all you have to go on is marketing material. Seeing reviews of stuff from people that actually use it is great.

I'm psyched to see some promotion at WES and some more members sign up to grow this thing. I think you need to churn out some Port3101.org polos and t-shirts for us to wear and really pimp this place (Kidding--cost might be a bit prohibitive).

Can I get cash for mentioning it in my WES presentation? LOL

I really enjoy the format of this forum. There really did need to be a separation of topics and focus on Admin toics from some of the other sites, but I didn't realize that until this forum appeared. I'm glad you guys were the ones to figure that out.

There are times to look at the other forums for more handheld oriented things, but it was difficult to sift through posts to find relevant posts to Admins. Since I serve both purposes of BES Admin and Support, I still browse other forums based on my needs.

Jdizzle is right about the product reviews. I had no idea how many applications were out there for the BES until I attended WES last year. Reviews are few and far between for server targeted products. Hopefully some other vendors will pick up on this, including RIM. There is nothing better than Admins reviewing enterprise products for others.

We are very vanilla with our BES here, but I really enjoy reading what others are doing and expanding my ideas to see what we can do in our environment.

Default It's coming along

I think as more people are aware you will see more information. What I enjoy most (besides helping and asking BES related questions) is hearing about:

- Mobility projects you have going on

- How do you control costs - growth etc

- Security around BES and BB - App World sounds great for consumers - me as an admin managing company provided BB - not so great

- BES Performance related

Being the center point for all things BB here I get hit from different directions and having a sounding board of peers to bounce these things off help validate my thought process sometimes as well get new ideas.

I really enjoy browsing the forums at port3101. I’ve been reading blackberry forums for sometime time now, a few years. I honestly never really posted just read, Yup I was one of those guys. My original thoughts on port 3101 were great another place for BES administrator’s to post and get information. Honestly, I thought it was pointless. I figured I had so many other BES forums that this one really had to deal with a saturated market. But then I started to read here, and see the level of competence the people here had, I began to realize the potential of this forum.
Who cares, RIM will just change how they do Cert's again
