Default how to prevent carrier to push application download

Hi
Our carrier (Bell mobility) is pushing a lot of crap on my blackberries. How can I prevent them to be push or how can I remove them with my BES. I hate theses cause users will like them and will use a lot of data OTA...

I'm I alone in that situation ?

thanks

You're not alone in this struggle. AFAIK, there is no way to remove the apps (or the icons that install the apps) since they are sent via service books to the device from the carrier.

You can control what applications the users use, though, via the IT Policy. So if they user installs AIM instant messaging (for example) you can block that from the BES.

Still doesn't get rid of the icon in the first place, but can help with the data charges.

We were once told by RIM at last year's WES that you will have the option to block these carrier push applications in BES 5.0.

If BES 5.0 can do that, it's worth the upgrade!

What about going in and blocking them via IT policy? BES 4.1.6 has under "Browser Policy Group" to "Allow Application Download Services" and the description states "Specify whether application download service icons appear on the BlackBerry device when the wireless service provider assigns a service and the appropriate service books are present on the Blackberry device"

Set this rule to False to hide all application download service icons.

I just tried this on my 4.1.6 BES and it did not appear to affect the Icons ATT pushed to my Bold. I don't know what exactly qualifies as a "download service icon" to RIM.

Verify the users are receiving the IT Policy you made the policy change in. Maybe even resend them. I just did this for a customer and it removed all AT&T browser icons. It only hides them from view but the service books still remain. You can delete the service books after applying the policy as well but is unneeded.

Keep in mind that this is not instant but it took some time to reach all users as well as for the devices to start purging the icons.

With my 8900 using the launch OS on BES 5.0 MR1, the policy removed all browser icons except Music Apps, Community, and Shop Music (all under the AT&T Music folder). This is a known issue with some carrier browser icons and RIM is working on a resolution.

I thought there was going to be a "Disable Virtual Preloads" IT Policy... I'm guessing there isn't one yet?

It appears that it is the one that is currently not entirely working correctly
