Default BES 5.0.2 installation

Hi,

I'll appreciate if someone can share their experience.

I came across a note in the help file during the BES 5.0.2 installation wizard indicating that the BES server name to be used during installation has to be different than the hostname of the computer/server on which the BES is being installed?

How critical is this and what may be the issues if they both are same?

Thank you.

I haven't seen an issue with it at all. I have a couple of High-Availability instances with "generic" server names different from the hostname and another non-High-Availability server that has the same server name as hostname.

I think it's probably a good idea to change the server name in the case of High-Availability, due to the fact that when a failover occurs, confusion might ensue as to which host is running the active instance, but it's certainly not required.

My BES server name and computer/server name are the same and have been for over 3 months now and have not had any problems due to the names. I agree with adershem when using High-Availability change the names.

The only issues I have come across is that our BAS pool name is unfortunetly the same as the name of the physical hosts.

If this is the only issue it would mean that if the BAS pool or HA pool is failing you couldnt test by going to the host directly.

Not a major issue but something that has caused me problems in the past.
