I am trying to move a phone BB from one BES to a BESX (not connected to each other). I do a backup, wipe the device and add to the BESX. When i go to restore the contacts from the backup it creates a new 'Desktop' entry under address book and restores the back up to one, then syncs the users entries from their outlook to the other. In effect creating duplicates of almost all entries. Is there a way to combine these to address book folders?

There should be no need to do the manual restore from the backup.
If the contacts are in the user's Outlook mailbox, then they will sync to the handheld when you activate it.

not all were in Outlook from the handheld.

Why don't you give yourself rights/permissions to both mailboxes, then open the them up as additional boxes in outlook (if using exchange). Then copy contacts to the address book of the one you want active. Then wipe and re-activate and pull the new copmbined address books.
