My plane lands Sun at 11:35 am. I'm heading to Marriott to get Darth, then to Universal.

Universal IOA? If so, let's meet up later on. I'm sure we'll be on our way around 3pm.

When I was unpacking, I found port3101.com stickers on a almost every one of my shirts.....thanks hdawg. I had a number of them from hanging in the BoxTone lounge during the Will.i.am concert. Good times.....and my face hurt from laughing so much.

I'd be curious to get some thoughts from some of you on the WES. Any interesting trends you noticed? Interesting vendors? Thoughts on BES 5.0 and the BAS?

With regards to the vendors, if anything, I noticed a trend of those strong in the marketplace (BoxTone, Neverfail) continuing to do what they previously had been successful at doing (with some tweaks here and there, obviously). There weren't any new vendors that really popped out to me, in general (a la Unify4Life last year). The schwag, outside of the BoxTone booth and the multiple shirts up for grabs, was perhaps the most disappointing in a few years (RIM's schwag for government day attendees and BEC members was quite a nice takeway, though).

P.S. - Brandee said she would model the shirts. They are long at the bottom but fairly snug up top (don't you wish someone would have saved me a medium or small for her... mmhmm).

Default Hey!

I didn't know I was a shwag blocker!

I have to agree nothing jumped out at me. The new HP printing thing is pretty cool. As I'm sure is the case for most of us not much room in budget to do anything new unless you have a really cost / benifit case.

Trends - I guess Pinjo's session showed that many companies are struggling with personal liable mobility as well what should or should not be supported / allowed around personal usage on mobile devices.

Related to that sat in some interesting compliance / e-discovery sessions and again the scope of how mobile devices are excellerating faster then company regulations is something at least in our case work quicker to figure out.

I'm still trying to figure out if there is an easy way to download all of the presentations and MP3's without downloading each session's files individually.

Otto- we may have some extra shirts, and if not, I'll see if we can order some more for you.

And like Pinjo says........take a cold shower.

It seemed to me that most deployments were looking to maintain current functionality support their environments more efficiently. Many conversations about tracking users not using the device, and things like that. AT least that's what people were asking me about.

Show floor- .....meh......nothing really that new and exciting.

Man, I really wanted one of those bean bags, though. Those things were AWESOME! 8-)

Jeff, after looking through a number of flyers and information packets earlier today, I realized just how many vendors were promoting compliance and e-discovery. I know a lot of companies are still struggling with retention policies, what is applicable for discovery and what is not, etc. I think this space has the potential to grow by leaps and bounds over the next year or so. A couple years ago, Gwava was the only vendor showcasing a product (that wasn't available at that time) and now there were at least two vendors - both with much more expanded features than Gwava has promoted over the last two years.

Gov't Day had a grab bag with the premium headsets, highlighters, a 4GB microSD card, etc. BEC had the media center gateway. Now if someone would have given me a charging pod for my 8900, I would have had everything from the Accessories Store that I ever wanted

Not too bad. I guess I don't feel so bad about missing Govt Day now. My original thought of missing out on the 8900 at the ATT Party was total sadness, but I wouldn't have been able to accept the device when it shipped anyways.... well, it would be a very grey area.

This year being my second WES was a completely different experience. Last year, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out this new world I was seeing and taking in everything that was new to me. Last year, I had no idea of the software vendors or the level of applications they offered. This year, I had things to accomplish and sought companies and people out. My calendar has never been so packed.

So I inquired to RIM about this and received a response that essentially said: No, you can't download them all at once, but it you buy the $199 DVD they will all be together for you. Really?

The web setup is better than the CD portal you had to go through to get the files last year.

Anyone else notice the comparison to the early stages of dating and the vendor WES notifications? Instead of waiting 3 days before calling, most seemed to have waited two weeks before flooding me with emails. Not that I don't mind the follow-ups, but I really won't voluntarily sign up for spam next time I see a shiny pen.. really, I won't (no seriously, I really won't... sigh).

The Govt day had some really good info in it, hopefully they'll get the audio/presentations posted soon. The swag bag did included a nice headset (although I would get a nicer one later), 4 GB microSD, highlighters, and seems like something else. I did also snag a shiny new certificate at Govt day for a new Blackberry of my choice. Pretty sure I'm going to hold onto it until the Tour is released. I was robbed of a bag pack filled with goodies at the Support Forums party. I guess I looked pitiful enough that they gave me two Executive Headsets (better than the premium from Govt Day), which I gave one to Darth. They later overnighted me a backpack filled with hat, media gateway, another Executive headset, notebook, and charger once I got home. I gotta say the support forums backpack is pretty sweet. I gave my WES backpack to a co-worker.

Did have a good time meeting everyone again and seeing new faces. Good to put a face to JSanders, JL, and Pinjo. Vendor-wise the encrypted microSD for G&D, and CellCrypts product were pretty cool. Did anyone look at Bayalink's Liberty product? I tested that when I got back and gotta say it looks pretty cool.

Did the million dollar question ever get answered? What if you're using a Bold and receiving voice and data, you're on a phone call and you get a policy update to disable the phone, what happens? Good lunch conversation.

Yeah, it's funny because I seem to be getting spammed by 3 or 4 different companies every 2 or 3 days. I sure don't remember visiting all of these booths either! Seems like RIM is slowly giving out info to all of the vendors so they can SPAM away.

What got me on most of the list I care nothing about is the sheet to register for the Wii. Took two phone calls today.

I won a DS, so that's cool.

As for the lunch question, I don't believe it was answered. I will test it tomorrow, though.

I asked one of the "beta boys" (hdawg was with me) and two other gentlemen from the early adopter program about this. All 3 were quick to respond that the policy would apply after the call is finished and would not immediately disable it.

Too bad they scan badges. At less high tech events, I usually drop business cards from old bosses in the fishbowls. Note to everyone... collect departing manager cards to use in such situations

Wow... 4 in a row for me.

Also nice to meet you AUTiger and others. Ugh! a new device certificate would have been sweet. Maybe I need to become a developer and snag one at the Developer Conference. At least those attendees get free devices!

Hmm, not sure I want to know. I'm really bummed that Verizon didn't have the big give aways of the last two WES because each of the last two years I've "won" a blackberry (8703 and 8330). I was hoping to come away from WES with a brand new shiny Storm (or at least a Curve) to go with my "Free Blackberry Certificate". I'm getting tired of my 8830.

I know what you mean. Considering I got more goodies from other vendors than from Verizon (our main provider), I was disappointed in their "event" at WES.

Damn, it feels so good being so right all the time...

...but I still grabbed a Bold from work today for testing this out, although I didn't have enough cycles to even think about looking at it (hdawg has my previous unbranded Bold).

I gotta say the Verizon party was more of a social hour then anything. Even the food seemed ho-hum. I guess the main event was whats her name from Keybank. VZW took me to some tropical restaurant and we drank and ate late which was cool.

I missed out on the PS3 - the lady who they picked wouldn't swap so I brought the Wii back and put it up for bid among co-workers. Everything else I just passed out to the team. I didn't keep anything but a couple of those 10 year t-shirts (they gave me like 10 of them)

Lots of calls / emails which is ok as some vendors I do want to follow up with. I got one of those liberty things last year and it works as they advertise it. It bascially puts the BB screen onto a PC and you can use the normal keyboard. Not bad for a pretty inexpensive device.

It was great to see everyone from the forums and I think that makes the event as that networking makes us all only stronger in our knowledge and being that much more ahead of mobile strategy etc. I think Pinjo should angle to have his session again next year and report back how personal liable is working out. I'd love to see a "seasoned BES admin" panel for those just getting started and have an open panel on all the things we struggled with "back in the day".

Hopefully this crappy economy doesn't do me in and I'm back next year.

Now Christina from Remote360 or those brighthand girls - they can call me all week and I won't mind

But it still doesn't get past the fact that it has the dumbest licensing model (monthly fees) that I've ever seen. I really don't understand why they'd have this thing set up for monthly billing. A one-time device cost should be all it needs (perhaps maintenance fees for any updates and device refreshes).

monthly recurring revenue ... looks prettier on the books.

That said, if you're big enough, and want the product badly enough ... I've found very few companies that aren't willing to work with you on licensing models / costs.
