Default Obsolete IT Policy rules

Does anyone know if it is possible that an obsolete IT policy rule can still be processed by a BB (assuming the blackberry according to the version shouldn't be able too)?

I guess anything is possible but I highly doubt this would be the case. Care to give an example?

FWIW at WES 2010 it was explained that best practice is a new database be created for BES 5 and for going to SP2. A few people in the crowd said they had issues with devices that were using an old IT policy rule that did not exist in BES 4.x but surfaced after an upgrade to BES 5. Making a new BlackBerry domain and moving users over with transporter fixed their issue. The speaker said there have been a few issue with old rules not being purged on previous BES upgrades.
