Default Initiating Prepopulation without Activation

I work in a business where our e-mail is quite sensitive. A number of co-workers have raised concerns about the US Customs Search Authority when they come into the States.

They want to be able to enter the US with a BB that is clear of any sensitive data in the event that it be seized for some reason. These BB's are password locked, but according to cross border national policy, you would have to forfeit this password if asked.

Going into the mailbox on the BB and "deleting prior" seems like the quickest and easiest way of doing this while maintaining a BES connection.

My question is, is there any way for me to re-initiate a prepopulation of e-mail after they have crossed the border? Most of them will want their mail back on the BB when they get to the other side. A full wipe and re-activate is possible, but it seems a bit excessive and I'm worried about the roaming charges incurred in transferring an average of 1500 contact's not to mention mail on each of these users' BB's.

They could backup their message database on the handheld to their laptop and then restore later.

That said, anyone could still use remote search to access the mailbox ... so if you're so concerned you'd need to disable that too.

The remote search we would probably leave alone. If a BlackBerry was seized, we could just delete the BES account and all connection would be severed.

The backup idea is valid, however their laptop would be subject to seizure as well. And we're trying to urge them to keep documents off of their laptops. IPD files are not exactly common, but programs to go into them are readily available.

I think they will just have to deal with the "delete prior" solution and use a remote search to find old ones from then on.

Thanks.

Well a couple of things.

1- If you just delete prior what happens to any e-mails that are on the device or come into the device when customs has it?

2- why not activate a "blank" device locally, then text them a reactivation password. This would pre-pop all messages up to the limit set in the BES

They are going to want to use it up to when they arrive at the border, and I'm worried about the roaming fees associated with the amount of data pulled down to re-activate. Not to mention that I cannot really be sure of roaming network coverage when the do cross the border.

As for the e-mails that show up when customs has it, its a chance they will have to take, or they will just notify us to disable redirection until they get across the border.
