Red face BES 5.0.1 MR1 Question

I have a real dumb question, but i really need your help on this.

We will be migrating to exchange 2010 in the coming months and im getting ready to get our BES 5.0.1 SP1 on WS2003 ready for theupgrade. All i have to do is the MR1 as our systems admin will take care of the RU1 and MAPI installs, but on my side im not sure what exactly this means;

"On the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, configure access to the installation media that was used toinstall the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Depending on how the software was installed, this might be a product CD or a networklocation."

Is that something i really need to do or can i just skip it? i'm not sure how the previous guy did it as I just ended up taking over So far so good though. Please let me know i would really appreciate it, thanks.

I believe its just telling you to make sure you have the original install files handy for if/when the MR1 install tries to access them. So if it was installed from CD, have the CD in the drive, if you downloaded/unzipped the install from RIM's site, make sure you have those files still on the server.
Hope that helps.

you need to update the mapi on the bes too unless you meant the sys admin would do this on the bes too.

Yeah, i know about the MAPI, thanks for bringing it up though, but i have yet another question. With the MR1 installed, and the MAPI client upgraded, will BES still be able to work in an enviroment with both Exchange2003 and Exchange2010 servers?

RIM's recommendation is always to install the latest MAPI/CDO components. They state that if you install the version for E2010 it will be downwards compatible to E2003 and E2007.

Perfect, thanks a lot Abe

I was afraid to do the MR1 and MAPI upgrade and find out out E2003 BES users were out of luck while the ones on E2010 will be solid

Thanks a lot guys.
