Default BES 5.0.1 and Exchange Web Services, anyone got it working?

Hi all,

Has anyone managed to get this to work? Apparently using EWS for Exchange SP1 means we don't need to use Public Folders for free/busy lookup in calendars, which is a major step forward for those of us using a pure Exchange 2007 mail system.

Please share your experiences.

Thanks!

Thumbs up

Hi,

We did some tests with it together E2010 RU1 and it seems to work fine.
The good thing is, that you can safely try it out using a separate Messaging Agent. We are currently testing that with a couple of users and up to now with less trouble than with CDO.

However there are some caveats:
  • Documentation regarding traittool is incomplete: Which URL (just host or complete, ...) exactly the tools wants, was kind of trial&error to figure out. Same applies to BES host. Sometimes it wants the instance name, sometimes the host name. RIM opened a feature enhancement request for those. I do not know if it is fixed yet.
  • You have to set precisely the required permissions on the IIS - even our Microsoft consultant got it wrong first.

So it is worth testing and I am looking forward to hearing your experience from you

Greetings,
Neo3000

Working fine here. Not sure what Neo3000 is talking about regarding IIS permissions. The BesAdmin account just needs impersonate permissions added in Exchange. In 2010 the permission setting for impersonation is different than what is specified on BTSC for Exchange 2007.

Have a look here for 2010 (IMHO this is even easier):
Configuring Exchange Impersonation

Hi,

I ran into the following problems when trying to get EWS to work

In BES logs

[30587] (12/23 13:54:15.084):{0x1430} {User21@domain.com} WSUser::SetUser - COM Exception: Code = 80131509, WCode = 0000, Code meaning = Unknown error 0x80131509, Source = System.Web.Services
[30588] (12/23 13:54:15.084):{0x1430} {User21@domain.com} WSUser::SetUser - Description = The request failed with HTTP status 405: Method Not Allowed.

At the same time the ISS Server has this error

2009-12-23 05:54:14 192.169.21.33 POST / - 443 - 192.169.21.231 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+MS+Web+Services+Client+Protocol+2.0.50727.4016) 405 0 1 15

Really have no idea what the problem can be...

Can anyone help?
