Default Any benefit to DBNS?

I've just installed a BES 5.0 server with a remote SQL 2005 configuration database. After going through the eventviewer I found bunch of warnings saying the DBNS (Database Notification System) is not installed. I've read up on it and know how to install it, but I can't find a clear answer on what it actually does. I know it's not required, but is it something I should consider implimenting to increase performance?

Thanks!

It is supposed to optimize database call traffic between BES & SQL. There have been issues with it in the past, if you have low latency / high bandwidth between BES & the SQL server then I would avoid it.

Thanks for your reply! BES and SQL are on the same LAN, eventually hosting about 700 users. Do you know what types of issues people have seen with it?

When you upgrade one but not the other the mismatches have caused nasty little issues which I cannot recall fully, I heard about it at WES so of course everything is a little fuzzy...

We have 12,000 users and I asked RIM about it a while back and they told me that for an environment of our size it's not recommended as it would be inefficient and possibly cause more problems than it would help with.
