Question SQL 2008

Hi everyone, i have a question. Next month, i'll have to migrate my SQL Server from 2000 to 2008 and i have my BesMgt in there. I just changed from BES 4.0 to 5.0 and its working great, unfortunately, even when i wouldn't like to move something that is working well, i need to do it.

Can someone please put me in the right direction in order to minimize the risks involved? I have less than 50 users but all of them are VIP, very VIP.

Im running on BES 5.0 over Windows Server 2003 and my actual SQL version is 2000.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

SQL 2008 is not currently supported with BES 5.0. If you wait another couple weeks before moving, then it will be supported with the BES 5.0 SP1 update that is being released. I believe there were issues with the actual BES installer and SQL 2008, but I can't really recall. Nevertheless, from a supportability perspective, especially since these are VIP users, I would highly recommend waiting until the appropriate level of support is available from the vendor (in this case, RIM).

Sadly i can't wait a couple of weeks more, the DBM just fixed the migration date to Dec 15. I have another SQL Server 2000 under my control and that server is not planned to upgrade, can i just move the database from server1 to server2, how can i do that? i review the server topology on my BAS i cant find a parameter that points to the actual Database, do i need to reinstall in order to move my DB??

Is there any KB about moving databases for BES 5.0?

Thanks again

Same method as BES 4.1.x, but you need to re-run the setup to change the database name rather than using the 'Change Database' button in the Server Configuration Tool. See below.

KB18129 - Switching BlackBerry Configuration Database in BES 5.0
