Default Cannot sync address book entries from GroupWise to Blackberry (bb2gw works fine)

Mail/calendar/tasks work great bidirectionally without issue, never were an issue

Contacts on the other hand (this is with using a brand new address book & new entries on gw, and a blank address book on the phone) -

- add from gw shows up on BB - yes fairly quickly (a minute)
- modify from gw shows up on BB - no
- delete from gw shows up on BB - no
- add a bunch from gw shows up on BB (copied from different address book) - no
- modify a bunch from gw shows up on BB - no
- delete a bunch from gw shows up on BB - no

- add from bb shows up on gw - yes very quickly (a few seconds)
- modify from bb shows up on gw - yes very quickly (a few seconds)
- delete from bb shows up on gw - yes very quickly (a few seconds)
- add a bunch from bb shows up on gw - yes very quickly (a few seconds)
- modify a bunch from bb shows up on gw - yes very quickly (a few seconds)
- delete a bunch from bb shows up on gw - yes very quickly (a few seconds)

If "RSET" option is used (bb/contacts/option/ type rset) to reload address book contents from server - yes, with changes from server.

Not sure why modify/delete from gw2bb do not work, settings for the bes mgr are bidirectional, and "server wins"

gw server is oes2linux gw8
bes server is w2k3
bes416mr5
gw client on bes server is gw7sp3hp3+bes-hotfix/ftf
specific handheld in question is at&t curve with os 4.5 (did have 4.2 on before, was hoping 4.5 update would help in some way, but of course it did not).

Any thoughts?
