Default School me on IT Policy

Hey guys,

So we have been running a BES with GroupWise with less than 40 users. We have had AT&T as our carrier. Mostly, 7290s, etc. NO IT policy!

The powers that be, have decided to upgrade to newer handhelds, and at the same time move to Verizon. I think we will be looking at the curve, the tour, etc.

I have decided that with new handhelds comes new features and as a result, we should probably enable some sort of IT policy.

Can you tell me what i need to look out for. Things to not do, things to do. What should we lock out, what are things that users are taking advantage of and causing problems for you? Potential security pitfalls.? Basically, i need to know what to plan for with this new IT policy. Also, i have zero experience with a blackberry IT policy, so i need to know where to start, and what to do...

I appreciate your help!

4.0.7 MR3 (Rollup) (Bundle 50) (well probably update our server too)

Your business rules/policies will determine what needs to be reflected on the handheld side.

Since you aren't using any restrictions now... what is changing on the business side of things that requires you to change your handheld policies?

For example...
Business Rule/Policy = No cameras in mobile phones.
You'd then set an IT Policy for the handheld which disables the camera on the BlackBerry.

Business Rule/Policy = All users must have a network password, which expires every 60 days.
You'd then set an IT Policy which forces the user to have a password on their device which they must change every 60 days.

Once you determine what your business rules are, then it will become simple to determine what your IT Policy will look like.

You should definitely get that BES upgraded right away. Version 4.0 is VERY outdated and no longer supported.
At the very least, go to version 4.1.x ... but might as well jump right to BES 5.
Make upgrading a priority.

Actually, no... BES 5 is not available for Groupwise yet.
Go to 4.1.x
