Unhappy Half a Sync?

Environment:BES 5.0.0 mr2, Windows Server 2008 SP2 (on VMWare). Exchange 2007 (on VMWare) (Mixed mode with Exch 2003)

Problem:
Any action from the Handheld seems to be properly sync'd up to the exchange mailbox. When a message is read or deleted (hard or regular) this action is NOT sync'd back to the HH.

This is also true of mailboxes on the Exchange 2003 server (mixed mode until migration is complete). This problem is NOT being seen on the 4.1.6 BES.

I have checked the status of Wireless Reconcile on the HH and server, I have checked the status of Hard Delete Reconcile on the server. I can't find anything wrong. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure this has to do with issues in the MAPI/CDO components used on server 2008.

Are you using this version? Download details: Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1

Yes, I explicitly installed 1.2.1 as it was mentioned in many articles about Windows 2008 BES installations.

(sarcasm on)
Of course there have. How silly of me not to think of that. Thank you Microsoft.

I noticed that the version in SYSTEM32 is 64 bit. Could this be an issue?

ok file versions look good ... can you search for exmapi32.dll ... should be same version as cdo.dll ... 6.5.8131.0

Can you test making changes through OWA too?

OWA:
No different. Reading a message and message deletion is not propogated to the handheld.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version: 4.1.6 mr5 - BesAdminAD on Exchange 2k3 - Working fine
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version: 5.0.0 mr2 - BesAdmin on Exchange 2k7 - Sync problems

Curve 8310 OS: V4.5.0.81 (Platform 2.7.0.78)

(I am the "user", so I don't mind messing with things.)
I have another user with the same HH and OS and his, apparently is working fine. Go figure. My Manager has an 8900 (or a 9000, I forget which), and I believe his is in the same state as mine.

Mine was Activated directly to Bes 5, the other two were migrated using the Enterprise Transporter.

I'm going to nuke mine. Activate it on Bes 4.1.6 and migrate it to 5.0.0. We'll see if it make any difference.

Honestly ... try upgrading your handheld OS ... grab 4.5.0.163 from here Current BlackBerry handheld OS releases

... you've got a fairly old 4.5 HH OS. ... then activate directly on 5.0

Doesn't matter who my provider is?
(Provider is Rogers, their current release is 4.5.0.81)

I see neither ESN or MEID, I see IMEI on mine.

Nope, not at all.

Install the OS on your PC, delete vendor.xml and go.

All 8310's are GSM and have IMEI ...

You have an 8310 not 8130. ... https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B73B97E1AAA491

Got it. Says something about O2 and UK, but I load it up anyway.
I'll let you know how it goes. Probably not until tomorrow though.

Thanks for all your insight and ideas.

Yuppers ... other carriers work fine. Remember, all the software is built and released by RIM; the carriers just approve it and decide what they want used on their devices.

That said, if it is an 8310 software; it'll work on any 8310.

You didn't install the latest at https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B73B97E1AAA491 ...

I'm not saying for sure that'll fix it, but it'll eliminate other possible issues.

That said, can you also try moving your mailbox from one mail store to another?

I downloaded and installed the most recent at the URL you supplied:

Software Name: BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.174 (Multilanguage)
File Name: 8310M_PBr4.5.0_rel174_PL2.7.0.92_A4.5.0.124_O2_UK.exe
Download Size: 89.917 MB
Language: English
Published Date: 01/16/2009

Today I'm wiping, Activating on BES 4.1.6 and migrating to BES 5.0
Failing that I'll try the Database move.

Stay tuned.

OK!
Update HH to newest OS. Wiped HH, removed user (me) from BES 5.0, moved mailbox back to Exchange 2003, let everything settle down.

Activated on BES 4.1.6. - Everything working OK
moved HH to BES 5.0 - Everything working OK
moved Mailbox to Exchange 2k7 - problems (as described throughout this thread)

moved mailbox to a new storage group but still on Exch 2k7. Fingers crossed it's looking good so far.

Question now is Why?

... still good? I'd say give another day steady state and then wipe / reactivate on BES 5.0 directly.

Still good!
Going to try moving back to suspect storage group. If that fails will move back to current storage group. Remove HH and re-activate directly to BES 5.0

I've checked with the three others than have been using BES 5.0. They are fine. I think this may have affected only me. Botched moves etc while figuring all this out.

Will let you know.

Well I've moved my mailbox to other Storage Groups and so far all is well. When ever I move it back to this specific SG it fails to work properly. I can find nothing wrong anywhere, it just doesn't work. Admittedly I have not had time to run the Reskit Apps on the BES logs yet, but I'll try to find time and see if they reveal anything.

I'm betting there might be some corruption in the original database ...

Thanks for the details however; I look forward to hearing back on what you find with the resource kit tools.

I've poked around the BES logs, and the Event logs. There is simply nothing that indicates why this is happening. Not that I really know what to look for, but everything *looks* normal. I've even had our Exchange Administrator run a full offline maintenance on the database. No change. So far this has not happened to anyone else.

Final Update to this:

The Exchange Admin had to do some extensive repairs on the database for some other issues. This fixed my issue as well. Clearly it was an Exchange problem and not a Blackberry problem.
