Default Duplicate meetings/appointments after meeting update

Hi guys,

Been asked about an issue with duplicate appointments after the appointment has been updated.

In the words of the IT guy this is what happens:

"just to be clear the issue happens when other users send invites to the Blackberry users and then they send another update (again coming from non Blackberry users)but in the Blackberry users calendar it appears twice, this only happens for blackberry users. To verify it is the Blackberry server doing something I switched it off (the Blackberry server) and repeated the test by sending an invite to the Blackberry user and then changing the time in the meeting and it appeared fine in their calendar. As soon as I turned the Blackberry server on and repeated the test the original meeting and the new changed time meeting remained in the Blackberry users calendar."

We've checked the CDO version and it's identical on both servers, the permissions have been checked and also setup again.

[40000] (07/28 17:52:04):{0x53C} {test@test.com}-GetMAPITZI- Property tag of PR_RECURRENCE_TIMEZONE is invalid 0x8202000a

[40000] (07/28 17:52:04):{0x53C} {test@test.com}-SetTimeZone 2- CDO does not support this time zone 65535, using UTC

That part of the log is created around the time the meeting was created and then just afterwards updated.

All timezones are set correctly on the device.

This is happening for all users on the BES.

Any ideas at all??

Thanks!

Do the dupes show up in the mail client or on the BlackBerry ... or both?

What mail platform / version and BES version are you using?

Hi hdawg thanks for the response

They are using Exchange 2003 and BES 4.0 SP 7. The dupes only seem to appear on the BB.

I'd try moving the mailbox to another mailbox store, and then back to the original.

If this is only for a user or two, I would recommend using the RSET command on the device to reset the calendar (Calendar > Options > Type RSET) or doing what hdawg recommended before. If this is happening for every user with no bias, I would recommend upgrading the BES server to 4.1 SP6 and/or upgrading CDO if an update is available. If this is happening only to users on certain devices, I would recommend upgrading their device software to the latest version, if available. Unfortunately, this sort of issue does happen and there are a lot of causes that can be addressed at multiple levels.

Do you have the rest of the log lines that surround those two above? I had a similar error in one of my log files before (see link below) that was resolved by moving the mailbox. The error message seems to indicate an updated CDO is needed, but I never did that.

Cannot accept appointment/meeting request from device

Default Seen it also

I have two users with this same behavior and we've tried all the usual things to correct it:

Updated BB OS to latest
Verify CDO etc
BES is updated to latest SP/MR.
Moved user mailbox to another MS store etc.
Wipe BB / Wiped down to 507 error and clean OS

Sync of impacted users causing some recurring events to duplicate.

Finally at a recent RIM event I got to talk with one of the DB engineers (Bob something Bowerman maybe?) and he said he has seen this and the calendar is corrupted. He recommendend deleting the account and then re-creating and sycning data back. So I'm going to try that this week.

Sucky part if both users are higher end execs so their free time is very limited and it's next to impossible to get them to give up their BB for a good amount of time so I have cloned their mailbox with a test account until I have a process down to correct this.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice so far i've been advised of something slightly different to what i'd been told before:

"In outlook we always see 2 meetings for BES users since this problem started (when a change in time happens to a meeting) and in the calendar on the Blackberry we only see the first invitation (not the updated time) it has been known to see both too."
