BlackBerry Transporter Experiences
Well I've brought over a couple of curves, an 8700, and a Bold from 4.1 SP6 to 5.0. The curves were painless but the 8700 blew up. Don't know if I can blame the transporter for that however, it was a screwy build to begin with.
The Bold was fine, however now it is stuck with the Enterprise Activation "Status: Initializing" icon on the main screen. Everything is fine, can receive/send, etc. Man I hate that stupid useless icon. If all my production Bold users are going to see that I am bummed out.
Anybody else have good or bad experiences transporting different models / OS versions?

I had the same experience with the Bold with stock OS on our QA server. I had to do a soft reset on it to get the icon to go away. I've had no negative experiences with my devices, aside from that odd App Error 200 (or whatever it was) that I received on the first attempt.

I had a couple of users that could not be selected in the "Address Book"/Details. No reason given, they were just red. I then imported the users from a file and "previewed". The transporter spit out the reason why it could not move the users. "These users already existed on the destination bes", but turns out they were not activated. Now they get to wipe their devices and activate on their own

Also worth noting, if you change the SSL certificate for the BAS environment servers, you'll need to update the SSL in BUA (Start > Programs > BlackBerry Enterprise Server Resource Kit > BRKSSLConfig.exe).

BET and 4.1.x
Has anybody used BET to transport accounts from 4.1.x to 4.1.x?
I was told that this works "with some side effects" although the manual says otherwise ...

The transporter is dependent on the Blackberry User Admin Client (BUA). With 5.0 the BUA is linked to a BAS/domain. If I need to move users to another 5.0 domain will I need to setup another transporter/BUA on a different machine?

Don't listen to them. Yes, it does work, but the condition is that the same UserId cannot exist in both domains. With BES 4.1 SP7, you will have the conditional table column for an associated UserId for use with ET (if UserId 1 exists on both domains, then it will create a new UserId in another column (I can't recall the name of it off the top of my head) and use it for these purposes).

For now, yes (this should be changing, hopefully). Or I believe you can manipulate the registry on the machine running the ET/BUA clients.

The webcast today on BES 5 migration they dropped this little nugget:
The Verizon 8130 running OS 4.3 is not supported with BET.
I did a quick berrystats query and I have 64 of those .. ouch! Verizon just released a new 4.5 firmware for that model and the 8330 so I'll be putting this into my test plan for BES 5 migration.

The reason is because the 4.3 platform did not have the ability to store more than one IT policy on the device at once, whereas the others do (this is not a visible feature). I'm not sure why it was the only OS since 4.0.2 that has been limited in this regard, but nevertheless...
