BES 5.0 and Embedded Images
Can someone running BES 5.0 for Microsoft Exchange send yourself a test email with an embedded image from Outlook (Insert > Picture) and see if it shows up on your device? I seem to recall that this worked in the past, but for some reason it is not anymore.
EDIT: I just had Howie test it out on BES 4.1.6 and it worked fine for him as well.
BlackBerry 8900 on OS 4.6.1.250.
BES 5.0 MR1 for Exchange.
Exchange 2003 SP2.
CDO/MAPI 1.2.1.
If someone can confirm that it is a problem and I'll submit a case to TSupport. If you can confirm it's not a problem, then I'll scratch my head and try to figure out what's screwed up on this end. Sigh.

Just to add, I forwarded myself an HTML email with embedded images that I received on my personal account from Amazon and it works fine. It appears it's only those that are created with Outlook in this particular fashion. Really odd. Here's the log entry, which appears to indicate it should have delivered just fine (images embedded in the message and pushed):
[40391] (07/04 23:07:49.781):{0x864} {First.Last@company.com} RefId=-892452044 references 1 image(s) (in 1500 bytes of body) 1 from MB, 0 from cache, 0 failed. 1 images (18693 bytes) pushed, 1 images (18693 bytes) cached
...and the one from Amazon (with off-site hosted images that did not push):
[40391] (07/04 23:13:06.546):{0x864} {First.Last@company.com} RefId=-1895393540 references 10 image(s) (in 14983 bytes of body) 0 from MB, 0 from cache, 0 failed. 0 images (0 bytes) pushed, 0 images (0 bytes) cached

Do you have any settings on the Exchange side that would strip the embedded images? For a while we had that set up, so that any e-mail originating in Outlook would have the embedded images stripped. Now we went and blocked all Rich Text, so I cannot test this unfortunately.

Nope, nothing in the Exchange or antispam environments that would strip them. If anything, those kind of settings would be set to strip the off-site embedded images before they would the local embedded images. Also, this sort of embedding works fine in 4.1.6 (tested this last night within our environment).

Interesting. I wish I could test for you Otto I would call your TAM before opening a ticket. Sometimes there is just a setting that can be changed.

Tested this out, received the following result on my 8900 connected to 4.1 SP6 BES, accessing Exchange 2003 SP2 server. Message was sent to myself using Outlook 2007.
Also same result when sent to a Bold user on my test 5.0 BES. Unable to "get images" in both cases.

Thanks Mark. Submitting the case now. Which maintenance release are you using on 4.1.6? One of our industry colleagues mentioned that they may have noticed issues following an upgrade to MR5, although we only have MR3 running in production and they work fine.

Hmm. So I tested it previously in the 4.1.6 environment with another device. I just wiped mine (8900/4.6.1.250) and it does not work. I'm about to downgrade it and give it a whirl.

I have noticed this sometimes, but not all the time on our 4.1.6 MR5 environment. Haven't had time to correlate anything, but noticed a few times this weekend trying to "get images" and they would not download which i just attributed to bad signal coverage.
i will keep an eye out to see if maybe emails from external sources or something along those lines results in this behavior.

I downgraded and it didn't work. My 4.1.6 QA environment has MR5 on it, so I suspect this may impact 4.1.6 MR5 and 5.0.0 MR1 only. I'm about to reactivate on our production environment (4.1.6 MR3) and let you know.

Since I started having zero lucky with these, I moved to a Bold running AT&T's original launch OS (4.6.0.167/4.0.0.157) on our production BES 4.1.6 MR3 environment and it worked fine. I'm going to do a few more tests tomorrow, but I at least have a baseline that works for now

Otto... the embedded image works for me. Sent a test email to myself using:
Exchange 2007
BES 5.0 MR1
Bold with 4.6.0.282
Also works when sending from Outlook to a BIS account (GMail.)

I just had the chance to finally test with fresh devices and it all works now, of course.
I'm using a brand new BlackBerry Bold (4.6.1.167 / 4.0.0.217) on BES 4.1.6 MR3. I then used ET to move myself to the BES 5.0.0 MR1 environment. It still worked. I then activated a brand new BlackBerry Curve 8900 (4.6.1.231 / 4.2.0.108) on the 5.0 environment. At each phase, the embedded image test worked just fine. So annoying.
