New Fireplace
My brother came up and ripped off the rather cheap looking soap stone and pine fireplace I had up and installed floor to ceiling stone veneer. He also mounted my TV and ran the hidden cable management. As there's really no place on this wall (exterior) to install cabinets, I had this wonderful idea for him to install it into the hearth (he's a fireman, so he made sure that it would be protected from heat, should we ever decide to use the fireplace). We also did a good $1,000+ worth of landscaping over the weekend, as well. Ahh, gotta love spring fever
Have a look.

Very nice. Comparing the before and after, that is quite a dramatic change. Functional, yet classy... almost English like.

That looks freaking nice--I'm especially impressed with housing all the equipment underneath with all the cables running behind the stone (I assume). Think he'd mind a trip up to the north side to do the same thing in my house?

Perhaps. I suppose the American way (as was done here) would have been to invade....err I mean "liberate" the fireplace, tear it down and rebuild it in your own idealism, regardless of whether or not the fireplace wanted "liberating" in the first place!!!!

I acknowledge that only because I didn't need a German translator to read it!

Brandee wanted room for putting something on the mantel rather than it being simply decoration. The mantel sits 48" from the hearth, which is standard. So, it depends on who you ask. For us, it fits our needs and makes us happy.
