If you haven't joined the college football pick'em, time is running out. The first group of games is out and the smell tailgating is in the air. Are you ready for some football??

Its interesting, there's lots of consternation on the Husker board because no one knows what rule(s) he broke, and some are saying "the rules must be crap" or its "unfair" that he was dismissed because others have been suspended and allowed to return.
Here's about the best post in response, and I agree completely:
Quote:
Whatever Q did.
It was bad.
Bad enough to get him kicked off the team.
Bad enough for him to say "no comment" and not defend himself publicly.
Bad enough that another player (presuming there are any) won't leak the reason to a buddy... and then a blogger... and then....
Bad enough that a man working his tail off to rebuild the image and success of one of the truly great athletic franchises in the history of the country would risk, on the eve of the season, losing such an important perceived part of that return to glory.
In other words.
Bad enough for Bo to put image first.
That Bo Pelini places the image of the program in such high regard as to do whatever is needed to elevate Nebraska's stature in a narrowly defined window of --- character, class, talent and desire --- and refuses to allow one to overshadow the renewed committment to the single goal of "Honor" -is something I find thrilling.
This, in that sense, is nothing but a positive for the program.
The rules ---- whatever they are ---- are strict for a reason.
Because the only way Nebraska can do this is to do it right.
And right is to build the core character of the program.

I don't like them either. It's like saying my 401(k) going way up next year (I hope it does). Give the guy a chance to play out his final year. Then talk about it. On the other hand, it's about what he's done in college. It's based solely on his college career and not what he will eventually do, or not do, in the pros. You have to admit, he's done pretty well so far. Even for a lizard.

I didn't read the article I was basing my opinion on the title and it said nothing of college lol... I was wondering how they got Vince Young as the greatest player ever.
I agree he is a class act for the most part. I just get sick of hearing about him to be honest. I have friends that would swear he is the next coming of Christ. My best friend just had a Son and named him John Tebow. That's taking it to far to me lol

You said it best. The press deified him. It's not the kids fault. He simply enjoys playing them game and is very passionate about it. Too bad he has to get trashed like this for loving the game.

Aww c'mon mriff. No one here is trashing him, and I really haven't seen anyone else trashing him either. See my first two sentences above. I think he's pretty universally respected as both a player and as a person - the parodies like the one I posted really are trashing the media, not Tebow.

Sorry. I didn't mean you were trashing him. But he does get jumped on by some in the media for who he is. I think there's a certain segment out there who would love to see him fail. And they constantly write this kind of stuff about him. It's only natural. On the other hand, the fawning gets tiresome as well. He's not the second coming, he's just a very talented kid who loves to play.

I have to say, with very rare exception, I haven't seen that. That's kinda the whole point, that the huge majority of the media fawns.

Yeah, I think you guys are right. I guess I'm sensitive to a little of the knocking he does get. The same thing happened to Wuerffel back in the day.
Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming.
I need to get in to the Yahoo site and make my picks. I'm guessing there are some Thursday games on the list?

If Florida wins the national championship again this year, as expected. And if Tebow wins the Heisman again this year, as expected. Then I think he definitely has made a claim to being one of the most dynamic and accomplishe college football players of all time. Vince Young had one great season and won the national championship in the last few seconds/minutes in the BCS title game, although he never won the Heisman (and yes, Reggie Bush truly deserved it that year, although I do believe it should be taken away from him now). Young's bggest accomplishment, in my opinion, were the improvements made in the passing game, in which he went from a Top 50 QB to a Top 10 QB in one season (with a passer rating only half a point less than the previous Heisman winner and a near 2x increasing in yardage output).
...but I do not personally believe that Young was the best college football player of all time. I don't mind the comparisons of Tebow in this category, although I'm really not sure why one season has seemingly given Young this title (even when he wasn't voted the best college football player that season).

Oh hey, while I have you guys here, any of you use a DTV dish while tailgating? I have two different kinds of dishes (dual-LNB and triple-LNB (or it may be 5-LNB)), as well as an HR-21 receiver, and a tripod. Any ideas which dish I should take with me and any hints on setup?

The main knocking of Wuerffel I remember was when the Huskers knocked him real bad and sacked him for a safety in the Fiesta Bowl.

I have no problem whatsoever agreeing with that statement, since you included the words I bolded. What I think is silly is trying to crown him (or anyone else) THE best ever, comparing to other standouts from completely different eras.

Hey Jibi, et al... LTNS....
If you want HD, you will need the 5 LNB dish, or the 3 LNB dish (assuming it is a Slimline type dish). As far as the setup it is real easy. Set it up on the tripod at your house. You can actually plug the receiver in, punch in your zip code and it will tell you how to set the dish. Just adjust all of the settings on the dish to match what the receiver tells you...
I have a small single LNB dish, and receiver that I use for tailgating. Works real well. Since I only use the dish for this purpose, I just adjusted all of the settings one time, now the only thing I have to do is point it in the correct direction of the SE sky when tailgating.

P.S. - Once you get the hang of it, and you can get it to work at your house, you will want to set the receiver zip code to that of the stadium. Since you are so far away, you will want the settings to work over there, and they will be a bit different compared to your house (assuming you still live in ATL).

Doing this doesn't mean that I won't be able to get the same programming that I get here, right? The only reason I say this is because Auburn is one of the only places left that doesn't have DTV Local Programming, so watching college football is not an option except on ESPN (and no offense to the Big Ten, but I don't care about watching anything but LFS/CBS in the mornings after College Gameday). I'm wanting to make sure that I keep my local programming while in Auburn in order to pull the Atlanta-area local channels.

I'm wanting to make sure that I keep my local programming while in Auburn in order to pull the Atlanta-area local channels.

Yes, even if you go to Auburn you will still get Atlanta locals. Nothing you can change in the receiver (including your actual physical location) will get you any other locals (the information is in the access card based on your billing address, and is sent to it by DirecTV over satellite).
In short, you are good to go!

Careful, that's not entirely true. Depends on WHICH locals you're signed up to get. Locals for the largest metro areas are sent on normal satellite channels, but some of the smaller metros get their satellite locals via 'narrow beam" satellite channels, which won't get reception if you're very far removed from that area. I'd guess what you say is likely correct for the ATL locals though.
