KB11776 - How to move a Microsoft Exchange mailbox for a BlackBerry smartphone user

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 to 4.1 for Microsoft® Exchange

Overview

To move mailboxes on a Microsoft Exchange Server, it is strongly recommended that the Microsoft Exchange Server or Microsoft® Active Directory® tools are used. For instructions on the mailbox move procedure, go to support.microsoft.com search for 821829.

Note: If the Microsoft Exchange Server Mailbox Merge Wizard (ExMerge) or any other third-party application is used, the hidden BlackBerry folder in the mailbox may not be moved correctly or may be damaged. When this occurs, the BlackBerry smartphone user will be unable to send or receive email messages.
The administrator has the following options:
  • Perform a wireless enterprise activation process for all affected BlackBerry smartphone users
  • Perform a wired activation process using BlackBerry® Desktop Manager for all affected BlackBerry smartphone users
  • Contact a BlackBerry Technical Support representative for assistance
Note: If a mailbox is moved from one mailbox store to another within the same Microsoft Exchange Server, the BlackBerry smartphone user will not be able to send and receive email messages until the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server is restarted. See article KB00142 for more information on how to move a Microsoft Exchange mailbox.
Important: Restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see article KB04789.
