KB12429 - Removing the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, BlackBerry MDS Connection Service, BlackBerry Collaboration Service, or BlackBerry MDS Services for a decommissioned BlackBerry Enterprise Server
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.1 SP3 to SP6 MR3
Overview
The following conditions are required to remove the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, BlackBerry® Mobile Data System (BlackBerry® MDS) Services, BlackBerry MDS Connection Service, or BlackBerry Collaboration Service from the BlackBerry Domain for a decommissioned BlackBerry Enterprise Server:
Note: BlackBerry MDS Services has been renamed as the BlackBerry MDS Integration Service in BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1 SP5
- All BlackBerry smartphone users must be moved or removed from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
- Each BlackBerry Enterprise Server service must remove the MDS CS to BES Mapping or IM to BES Mapping associations
- A minimum of one BlackBerry Enterprise Server service must be removed
- The BlackBerry Enterprise Server hosting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service must be online and connected to the network
- The BlackBerry Enterprise Server service needs to be removed (i.e. removal of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software)
To remove the BlackBerry Enterprise Server from the BlackBerry Domain, complete the following steps:
- In BlackBerry Manager, select BlackBerry Domain in the left pane.
- Select the Servers tab.
- Select the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to be removed.

- Select Account and select Remove BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

- When prompted to confirm Are you sure you want to remove this BlackBerry Enterprise Server: <BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server_Name>, click Yes.
- Uninstall the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. For more information on how to uninstall the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, please refer to KB04096.
Note: If BlackBerry smartphone users remain on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you will receive the following error:
You cannot remove a BlackBerry Enterprise Server that contains users. Remove users or move them to another BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
To remove the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service from the BlackBerry Domain, complete the following steps:
- In BlackBerry Manager, select BlackBerry Domain in the left pane.
- Click Service Control & Customization.
- Click MDS CS to BES Mapping.
- Remove the MDS CS to BES Mapping for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that will be removed.

- In BlackBerry Manager, click Delete MDS Connection Service.
- Select the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service to be removed.

- Click Remove and then click OK. The BlackBerry MDS Connection Service is now removed from the BlackBerry Domain.
Note: If the MDS CS to BES Mapping is not removed or the associated services are not uninstalled, you will receive the following error message:

To remove the BlackBerry Collaboration Services from the BlackBerry Domain, complete the following steps:
- In BlackBerry Manager, click BlackBerry Domain in the left pane.
- Click Service Control & Customization.
- Click IM to BES Mapping.
- Remove the IM to BES Mapping for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that will be removed.

- In BlackBerry Manager, click Delete IM Service.
- Select the instant messaging service to be removed.

- Click Remove and then OK. The instant messaging service is now removed from the BlackBerry Domain.
Note: If the IM to BES Mapping is not removed or the associated services are not uninstalled, you will receive the following error message:

To remove the BlackBerry MDS Services from the BlackBerry Domain, complete the following steps:
- In BlackBerry Manager, click BlackBerry Domain in the left pane.
- Click Service Control & Customization.
- Click Delete MDS Service.
- Select the BlackBerry MDS Services to be removed.

- Click Remove and then click OK.
Note: If the BlackBerry MDS Services is not removed, you will receive the following error message:

Additional Information
If a BlackBerry MDS Connection Service entry remains for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server after it has been decommissioned from the BlackBerry Domain, see KB13393.
