KB16471 - The BlackBerry Desktop Manager prompts for an Internet connection
KB16471 - The BlackBerry Desktop Manager prompts that an Internet connection is required when configuring organizer data synchronization
Environment
- BlackBerry® Desktop Manager 4.3 through 4.7
Overview
The BlackBerry Desktop Manager requires an Internet connection to configure the organizer application synchronization for the first time.
Cause
An Internet connection is not available, or the request is being blocked by the organization's firewall, proxy, or security application such as Norton AntiVirus™or McAfee® antivirus software.
Resolution
Troubleshooting
- Verify that the Internet connection is working.
- Confirm that the application is not being blocked by the organization's firewall on the computer. For more details on how to allow the application by the organization's firewall, contact your vendor or visit their web site. Organization firewall applications might include the following:
- Norton Antivirus
- McAfee
- ZoneAlarm®
For additional information on Windows® Firewall, available with Windows Vista™, search for Understanding Windows Firewall settings on the Windows Help and How-to web site.
- If this computer is on an organization's network, contact your administrator to confirm that the BlackBerry Desktop Manager has access to BlackBerry on ports 80 and 443.
Resolution
Return to BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.2.2 or an earlier version.
Note: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.2.2 or earlier does not require an Internet connection.
