Cause 1
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server does not have permission to delete documents in the BlackBerry smartphone user's mail file.

Ensure the Manager Access and Delete Documents attributes are enabled for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server on the BlackBerry smartphone user's mail file ACL (Access Control List).

- Click File > Database > Access Control.
- Click Basics > Add.
- Type the name of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the name of the server group the BlackBerry Enterprise Server belongs to (e.g LocalDomainServers) and click OK.
- Make sure the BlackBerry smartphone user you just added is selected in the list of BlackBerry smartphone users, and then configure whether the BlackBerry smartphone user is a server or group in the User type list.
- Select the Manager Access level from the Access level list.
- Select the Delete Documents option.
- Click OK to apply the changes.
Cause 2
The BlackBerry smartphone is configured to delete items on the BlackBerry smartphone only.

Complete the following steps:
- On the BlackBerry smartphone, open the Message list.
