Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.0 or later
- BlackBerry smartphone
Overview
When attempting to activate a BlackBerry smartphone on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the following error message is received on the BlackBerry smartphone:
Activation requested the service connection is unavailable
Cause
Summary of Causes
There are multiple causes for this error.
- Data services are not activated for the BlackBerry smartphone.
- The BlackBerry smartphone is not registered with the wireless network.
- The BlackBerry smartphone user is on a call while attempting to activate the BlackBerry smartphone.
Resolution
Complete the appropriate resolution for the cause.
Cause 1 Data services are not activated for the BlackBerry smartphone.
Resolution
Contact the wireless service provider and request activation of data services for use with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Cause 2
The BlackBerry smartphone is not registered with the wireless network.
Resolution
Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions, see KB02141.
Cause 3
The BlackBerry smartphone user is on a call while attempting to activate the BlackBerry smartphone.
Resolution End the call and attempt to activate the BlackBerry smartphone again.
Additional Information
If the error message is received while attempting a wired activation in an area of low wireless network coverage, turn the wireless transceiver off. The wireless transceiver can interfere with wired activation.
