Default KB13420 - Reminder notifications for calendar entries may not display on the BB

KB13420 - Reminder notifications for calendar entries may not display on the BlackBerry smartphone

Environment

  • BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition smartphone
  • BlackBerry® Curve™ 8300 smartphone
  • BlackBerry® Desktop Manager
  • BlackBerry® Device Software 4.2.2
  • SDR134027

Overview

Reminders for calendar entries may not display due to the presence of multiple CICAL Service Records on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Note: This issue also affects BlackBerry smartphones that are associated with a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server and have a BlackBerry® Internet Service [CICAL] service book.

Cause

The reminder manager is unable to find the calendar entry.

Resolution

Complete one of the following resolutions.

Resolution 1

If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2.66 to 4.2.2.103, install the 2007 Calendar Patch. For instructions, see 2007 Calendar Patch for BlackBerry Smartphones.
Note: To identify which BlackBerry Device Software version is installed on your BlackBerry smartphone, from the Home screen, go to Options > About.

Resolution 2

Upgrade to BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 or later. For instructions, see KB03621.
Note: Verify that the BlackBerry Device Software Package Version contains Applications 4.2.2.114 or later. To identify which BlackBerry Device Software version is installed on your BlackBerry smartphone, from the Home screen, go to Options > About.

Workaround

If you have both the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Internet Service [CICAL] service books, delete all of the <BlackBerry Internet Service integration_name> [CICAL] service books.
  1. On the BlackBerry smartphone, go to Options > Advanced Options > Service Book.
  2. Delete all of the <BlackBerry Internet Service integration_name> [CICAL] service books (each BlackBerry Internet Service email integration will have a service book listed as follows, <BlackBerry Internet Service integration_name> [CICAL]. Note: When a BlackBerry Enterprise Server [CICAL] service book exists on the BlackBerry smartphone, the BlackBerry Internet Service [CICAL] is not used.
  3. Reset the BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions, see KB02141.

If you have multiple <BlackBerry Internet Service integration_name> [CICAL] service books, delete all but one of the <BlackBerry Internet Service integration_name> CICAL service books.
  1. On the BlackBerry smartphone, go to Options > Advanced Options > Service Book.
  2. Delete all but one <BlackBerry Internet Service integration_name> [CICAL] service book (each BlackBerry Internet Service email integration will have a service book listed as follows, <BlackBerry Internet Service integration_name> [CICAL].
  3. Reset the BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions, see KB02141.
