KB02357 - The name cannot be resolved. The name cannot be matched to a name in the address list

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Microsoft® Exchange

Overview

You receive the following error message when resolving a BlackBerry smartphone user account name in Microsoft Exchange:
The name could not be resolved. The name could not be matched to a name in the address list.
Note: In addition, the Global Address List (GAL) and other address lists may not have any entries.
You have attempted to resolve the account name using one of the following methods:
  • You created a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile and selected Check Name.
  • You typed a Microsoft Exchange alias in an email form in the Mailbox: field and then pressed CTRL + K.

Cause

This issue has more than one cause.
  1. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration account is not a member of the Administrators group and the Authenticated Users’ Read permissions were removed.
  2. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration account mailbox or email address is hidden from the Global Catalog List.
  3. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration account mailbox does not exist.
  4. The TCP/IP in the Local Area Connection must be reinstalled.

Resolution

Perform the appropriate resolution for the cause.

Cause 1

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration account is not a member of the Administrators group and the Authenticated Users’ Read permissions were removed from the Users container in Microsoft® Active Directory®.
Resolution
Complete the following steps:
  1. Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Active Directory Users and Computers.
  2. On the View menu, click Advanced Features.
  3. Right-click Users and click Properties.
  4. Click the Security tab.
  5. Select Authenticated Users, and then select Read permissions in the Allow column.

Cause 2

  1. In Microsoft Active Directory, select the affected BlackBerry smartphone user account.
  2. Open the account properties.
  3. Click the Exchange tab.
  4. Clear the Hide from Global Catalogue List check box.

Cause 3

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration account mailbox does not exist.
Resolution
Create a new BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration account. See KB02276 for instructions.

Cause 4

The TCP/IP in the Local Area Connection must be reinstalled.
Resolution
To resolve this problem, remove and re-add TCP/IP in the Local Area Connection properties by completing the following steps:
  1. Go to My Computer > Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection.
  2. From the File menu, select Properties, and then clear the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) check box.
  3. Install another protocol (NWlink or NetBEUI) to maintain a placeholder for each connection.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Go to My Computer > Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection.
  6. From the File menu, select Properties, and then select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) check box to add TCP/IP.
  7. Clear the check box for the protocol added in step 3 (NWlink or NetBEUI)
  8. Click OK to save the changes.
