KB13610 - Allow or deny read receipts


Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 4 (4.1.4) or later for Microsoft® Exchange
  • BlackBerry® Professional Software 4.1.4 or later
  • SDR120882



Overview

To allow or deny read receipts for BlackBerry smartphone users, complete the following steps: Warning: The following procedure involves modifying the computer registry. This can cause substantial damage to the Windows® operating system. Document and back up the registry entries prior to implementing any changes.
  1. On the computer that is hosting the BlackBerry Messaging Agent, start the Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents.
  3. Right-click the folder.
  4. Highlight New.
  5. Click DWORD Value.
  6. Type SuppressReadReceipts.
  7. Press Enter.
  8. Right-click the SuppressReadReceipts registry key.
  9. Click Modify.
  10. Select the Decimal option.
  11. Perform one of the following actions:
    • Type 2 to prevent BlackBerry smartphone users from sending read receipt messages.
    • Type 0 to allow BlackBerry smartphone users to send read receipt messages.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Restart the BlackBerry Controller. Important: Restarting certain BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will delay message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.
